Chris, If you square around and do not "offer" at pitch, it is not an automatic strike. This is a situation that no matter what happens, the umpire will get an earful. Must coaches are not aware of this. I usually error on the side of calling a strike. Falls under the category of "Game Management,"

I’m not a fan of the safety bag, but it’s here to stay and coming to all HS fields soon. If it’s about safety, why can’t the fielder use the outside bag instead of crossing the base the runner is running through?🤷‍♂️

@tromblybaseball I believe in NFHS rules the fielder can use the outside bag if the throw is coming from the outside. The runner is supposed to use the fair territory bag when this happens.
