"Ah, here's June... 'She walks in beauty like the night.' Only she's cycling, and the sun is out." •••••••••• Ain't a gambler but honey I'd put money on myself.

Every step is moving me up. Katılım Kasım 2013

@conoro @timelesscolours It is taken from O'Connell Bridge, but facing north-east towards Eden Quay, not south-west towards Aston Quay. The colours of the background buildings are wrong- the 'Shannon Travel' building and its neighbour with the clock are actually brick, not stone. #HowWellDoYouKnowDublin

@timelesscolours Took me a while but finally figured out it's taken from O'Connell Bridge and that's Aston Quay with the cyclists heading across the bridge coming from Westmoreland Street.

1960s, Pedal Power Sea of cyclists flows homeward after work: men in suits, women in skirts, bags swaying, wheels spin unison. PAA promises the world, Lyons Tea over Double-deckers. Dublin breathing the rhythm of pedals before car was crowned king. Do you cycle, drive or?

@susie_dent @hayfestival assuage. I was dreaming in a music lesson and ordered to read out that word (it's in the hymn 'Glorious things of thee are spoken). I got it wrong and made to feel stupid as I thought I was the best when it came to reading. It did teach me to practice before I opened my mouth!

Thank you to the lovely audience member at @hayfestival who shared that her daughter had once corrected her pronunciation of ‘epiphany’ and told her it should of course be ‘epi-fanny’. Which word have you royally mispronounced because you’d only ever seen it written down?

@dubcivictrust It always struck me as a strange decision to demolish it, given that it wasn't done for road widening (not that that would be sufficient grounds). It could easily have been kept. It's a minor detail, but the demolition didn't actually commence until 1990: x.com/BobShambles/st…
Bob le Shambleur@BobShambles

@stephen_coyne @fergalreid @ccferrie @cianginty According to this old EHB staff newsletter, demolition was underway in 1990: lenus.ie/bitstream/hand…

The 1987 demolition of Dr Steeven's Nurses Home was an unnecessary loss. Designed by Millar & Symes, who produced superbly built structures to exacting standards, it also exposed a disappointing elevation of the hospital, much-altered in the 1860s. The landscaping is also poor.

@DonaldClarke63 (It's not eponymous, it's not European and it's arguably not an art film, but I might never again have such an opportunity to make a joke I've waited years to make, so please humour me.)

Is Andrey Rublev the only top tennis player who shares his name with that of an eponymous European art film?

@dubdecodedtours @DublinGhostSign @dubcivictrust @libertiesdublin Looks like a bit of a palimpsest; at least two if not three layers. 'Receiving Office' might be part of one, with 'Works' and 'Pure' part of another. If you're wondering why you hadn't seen it before, it seems it was revealed by the removal of the Tivoli Theatre fascia signboard.

@AnFearBui Waller designed two terraces on Loreto Road in Maryland, D.8, which I think were built using the Nofrango method; much changed now but still interesting. He also patented the Ctesiphon construction method, inspired by the Arch of Ctesiphon/Taq Kisra in Iraq. (We go way back. 😉)

@JMOBrien_Dublin If I could change one thing on Wordle it'd be that. I failed my first and my fourth Wordles but none since, but my longest streak is only 285. It should be 1,174. I also do Artle, which doesn't re-set to zero if you miss a day, only if you get it wrong. This seems much fairer.

@rayofoghlu One might even wonder if that's the main reason they have 0.0 versions. In the early 2000s a similar ban was proposed, which led to both the Witnness (2 Ns, like Guinness, and the same typeface) and Oxegen (the EN used the Heineken typeface) festivals, as workarounds for the ban.

Love a pint, but in the context of a ban on alcohol advertising in sport, being able to splash Guiness/Heineken logos across a pitch, because these a "0.0" after them is a complete joke.
