BREAKING: Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is signing SB56, changes to marijuana and hemp — but is line item vetoing a provision that allows for THC-infused drinks.
Meaning, the state will BAN all “intoxicating” hemp products, including the beverages.

The Ohio senate not negotiating in good faith
Morgan Trau@MorganTrau
Going to be a long night… The House is blocking the marijuana/hemp deal, according to Rep. Jamie Callender. The Senate’s last minute additions to weed policy are “unconstitutional,” he says, and the bill seems to “recriminalize” THC. @WEWS @WCPO @OhioCapJournal

The government is open, but a hemp industry shutdown has just begun.
In true Washington swamp fashion, this hemp ban is not being debated on its own. Once again, Congress created a crisis, then conveniently used the crisis to jam through new laws without debate.

@RepDaveTaylor Trying to get in touch with your team regarding Hemp Ban in Congress. I own @FiftyWestBrew and this will have a major impact on our customers, employees, and businesses in Ohio. Have tried emailing and calling and figured this might work? Would love to talk.

This is hogwash. Completely misleading the American people and it’s irresponsible.
Lawmakers — including folks on the House side — are trying to shoehorn a massive change to federal hemp law into a government funding bill that has nothing to do with reopening the government.
It is a shady maneuver that makes funding contingent on wiping out an entire industry. I am not asking for anything other than removing this provision and debating it on its own, in daylight, with transparency.
Also, it’s the Speaker who has delayed reopening by not voting until Wednesday!

@ElectionWiz There is extraneous language in this package that has nothing to do with reopening the government and would harm Kentucky’s hemp farmers and small businesses. Standing up for Kentucky jobs is part of my job.
I just filed an amendment to strike the provision.

.@SenMcConnell with nothing to lose in his final lap, quietly slips a hemp ban back into the funding bill.
Legacy move: torch a $28B industry, ax 300K+ jobs, fuel black markets, and tell veterans, farmers, & responsible adults to pound sand. Bold way to say “Big Pharma only.”
We ask every other legislator: stand with Americans, not prohibitionists cashing checks from rival industries.
