Altuve was the face of the 2017 Astros. He sat in that clubhouse every night, watched teammates bang trash cans, won an MVP and a ring off the back of it and said nothing. For years. Not until reporters dragged it into the light. “Innocent” is a word you use for a kid who didn’t know what was happening. Altuve knew. He profited. He stayed quiet. Altuve let the entire sport eat the consequences while he kept the trophies. I don’t think he gets enough criticism for it. He’s still likely to get into the HOF. I don’t think any player, manager or coach from the 2017 Astros should be allowed to even buy a ticket to the HOF, let alone get inducted into it.

I say fire everyone now, hire someone current, immediately, that has scouted this draft. The next step is deciding what to do at the deadline. My entire point is that this is a fork in the road, I am not saying Crane has to sign the contracts now but he has to commit to do whatever it takes to sign Brown, Pena, and Alvarez. Otherwise why keep them, this team has a lot to do before its back to contending so they arent playing for 2027 or even 2028. Anyone they are not committed to after those years should be traded at their highest value, and that generally means playing well, years under control etc.

None of that is arguable. However, you cannot reload if you aren't drafting well and developing well, and they clearly are not. The only way to circumvent that is to purchase players from other teams minor league assistance in the way you do that is by dealing your established talent for prospects. I'm not telling you something you don't know. I'm simply stating the obvious which is that the way the Astros are currently headed is untenable and is leading towards disaster.

I understand we are in new territory as far as talent. Especially pitching. Crane was a pitcher in college and I always felt he valued pitching over hitting so pitching being this bad is shocking.

You were missing the point. None of that even matters if Jim Crane refuses to even make that in consideration. Up to this point, there has been one player. He has been willing to part with that has been understandable. However, they are in a way different place now and should be pivoting in terms of their strategy.
