@grantcohn BA doesn’t get to use his agent as an excuse when he supposedly thought he fired him in November and CHOSE not to hire another one. Maybe if he wasn’t a fuckin moron and hired a replacement agent, he would’ve advised BA better and told him SF wasn’t going to do that

Clearly Aiyuk thought he was going to get released after June 1 — that’s why he’s been crashing out. It’s a shame he had the same agent as the general manager.

@Acyn Most important question is, will Obama, and all his elk be arrested soon. We all know he was the head of the snake. It was a coup since 2016

@SSHarmon79 @grantcohn Would his 12 year career matter if he had hit 400 HRs and had a career OPS of .950. I think not.

@SSHarmon79 @grantcohn I'm not saying he should be in the HOF. I haven't really look at it, but the length of his career (12 years) shouldn't bar him from HOF automatically. Also, you are in no position to opine as to the severity of the pain he was suffering. You just don't know.

@grantcohn Longevity is a prerequisite for the Hall of Fame. Unless you die prematurely, a player with abbreviated “counting” numbers should fall short. Fans and “experts” who immediately claimed his shoo-in status were emotional bitches.

@TheRealMcKoy85 @SprintRight0p87 I went down the rabbit hole on this one a little while ago. The BA contract was structured in such a way that could trade him after year 1 with limit cap consequences. Injury messed with the plan, but they built in protections from his behavior.

@SprintRight0p87 He’s also partially responsible for the Brandon Aiyuk contract, so there’s that. He’s not the one that gets to decide who to sign and who not to, but it’s his job to make the numbers make sense, and in that way, he shit the bed with the BA contract.

I’m actually kind of intrigued by this. If he leaves, that would be the first time in many years that the Niners would have somebody different crunching the numbers for their contracts.

@richjmadrid_ Agreed. They are parts of the puzzle and based on such parts people acting reasonably can come to different conclusions. I was just trying to say that no one stat can completely and accurately measure performance.

@BobbyZ13 They’re all tools to help fans piece the puzzle together no matter how imperfect or flawed but someone like Lombardi who can’t even tell why it’s not a team stat is not someone anyone should take seriously

Notice how he doesn’t engage with the claim “EPA is a team stat” and just resorts to ad hominem attacks on it? “EPA is a team stat” is actually a substantive point, not a naive one. EPA per dropback assigns full credit/blame to the QB for outcomes that are heavily shaped by pass protection, receiver separation and drops, play design, and opposing defense quality. That’s a legitimate stats-methodology critique, not a misunderstanding of football or statistics.
David Lombardi@LombardiHimself

I've heard "EPA is a team stat" so many times over the years. Every single time, it's an indicator that the person saying it: -Doesn't understand the nature of football -Doesn't understand statistics -Doesn't understand how to analyze with any sort of proper context

@richjmadrid_ No stat can completely and accurately measure QB performance, nor is there a stat that can completely and accurately measure the performance of any other position. Performance of any player is dependent on the performance on those around him and scheme and opposition quality.

Whattt?? Average size for an NFL safety is 6'0 and 190-200 lbs. None of our safeties are sub 200 lbs. Upton Stout is 5'9" and 180 lbs. He does not have NFL safety size. You really want him playing man on a TE in the NFL? His length becomes a problem as a help safety and durability would be an issue with the hits safeties have to make. It's not because they don't think outside the box, it's because some ideas are outside the box for a very good reason.
Lobs@Lobs_All_Day

If I was 49ers DC I would have upton stout as my FS playing over 27. Lenoir would be my nickel and I would have an open competition for my outside corner opposite Renardo Green. They wont do this because they can't think outside of the box. Upton Stout would be a natural safety who can cover man to man which would give them a ton of versatility in the back end because neither one of their 2 safeties currently can cover man to man.

Am i one of the only people that actually really want to be on a jury? The idea of analyzing what's happening, thinking critically, deep focus. Sounds like a good weekend away, to me. I was once supposed to be on a jury for a federal district court case but it was settled 2 days before the trial. I was so disappointed. My wife has been called for jury 3x.....

My son received his first jury duty notice at 20 years old and I told him he probably wouldn’t be called. He’s jury foreman 😆😭😅

@JNay_LSS Are you saying that Josh Allen didn't play at a high level in 2024 when he won the MVP and when he didn't throw for 4K yards or 30 TDs?

Why do people act like Brock Purdy has multiple years of high level play? He has 1 year 1 year over 4k 1 year of 30+ TDs They happened to be in the same year He has 0 years of 3 to 1 TD to INT efficiency. I dont understand it.

@richjmadrid_ This subject drives me nuts. Allen's best years from a metrics point of view were the last 2, yet he didn't throw for over 4K yards or 30 TDs in either year, because Bills run game was significantly better. QB performance and team performance are interdependent!

@JasonAponte2103 My apologies. Thought you had a teenage child. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I worked for my father and was required to do all the stuff he didn't want to pay union wages to have performed (cleaned toilets and a ceasepool). Loved my father, but hated working for him.

Hypothetically if Mac Jones came in and they won a SB, they would role with Mac and let Purdy walk or trade him. And why wouldn’t they, that’s essentially what they did when Purdy stepped in for Lance and Garoppolo where everyone argued Purdy should keep the job.
JakeTheSnake@TheRealMcKoy85

Hypothetical scenario: Brock Purdy goes down with an injury at some point during this season, and Mac Jones steps in and the 49ers win a Super Bowl. …. Do you let Jones walk in free agency in 2027?
