Today in Rock History April 18, 1987 MTV- Music Television premieres Headbangers Ball, a show featuring heavy metal music videos. Episode one was hosted by Lemmy Kilmister and Phil Taylor of Motörhead. The inaugural episode featured videos from bands like Cinderella, Dokken, Whitesnake, Accept, Kiss, Poison, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, and an interview with the then-new band Tesla. Lemmy and Philthy brought their signature humor to the show, with Lemmy even appearing in swimming goggles in one segment.
