I have lost faith in Safdarjung Government Hospital. The hospital told us @Wangchuk66’s potassium had dropped to 2.9, describing it as alarming and life-threatening. Yet, in its public health bulletin, it conveniently omitted the actual number, referring only to "decreasing potassium levels." When after 10 hours and repeated requests, they allowed us to take samples of his blood at 10.30 pm, an independent laboratory test reported 3.5, well within the normal range. Despite repeated requests, the hospital has refused to discharge him or allow us to shift him to a private hospital of our choice. With around 30 police personnel stationed on our floor and well over 100 across the hospital, our movement is severely restricted. It is not medical care. It is illegal detention. If anything happens to Sonam, the hospital authorities and the government must bear full responsibility. I have therefore moved the High Court and sought an urgent hearing today, praying for permission to shift Sonam before his health deteriorates further. No family should have to fight the system simply to choose where their loved one receives medical care.

The core tenets of the Modi government are Asatya and Hinsa. The removal of Sonam Wangchuk ji from Jantar Mantar while he was on a non-violent hunger strike is wrong. Paper leaks, the rising cost of education, and student suicides are critical issues for India’s future. Shri Sonam Wangchuk has now been on a hunger strike for 19 days, demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister. The Indian National Congress has been making this very demand for over a month and a half. We share the anguish and outrage that Shri Wangchuk ji feels, especially due to the lack of accountability within the Modi Govt - for the collapse of the examination system in particular. In view of his health condition, we appeal to Shri Wangchuk to end his fast. His concerns are our concerns and that of other Opposition parties as well. Rest assured, we will continue to confront the Modi government and demand the Education Minister’s resignation.

Instead of asking why opposition leader hasn’t supported CJP, or why every CJP team member isn’t on a hunger strike alongside Sonam sir, ask the questions that actually matter. Why is the Prime Minister refusing to engage in a dialogue? Why is the Education Minister still not being held accountable? These are the questions that deserve answers, not distractions that only help shield those in power from accountability.

It is a strange tactical decision from the Congress high command to ignore Sonam Wangchuk. He was recently imprisoned by the Modi government on trumped up charges. He's currently on a hunger strike against educational irregularities that affect lakhs of children and their parents. And yet, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi haven't expressed their solidarity with him. Congress' problem with @abhijeet_dipke largely stems from his past association with AAP. But even the Congress has a past association with AAP. Congress and AAP leaders have campaigned for each other in 2024. Secondly, even though Dipke was once associated with AAP, the larger crowd he has managed to galvanise are young people with no political affiliations. Many of them have voted once or twice in general elections. Some of them will vote for the first time in 2029. @RahulGandhi needs these voters on his side. Why wouldn't you use a platform of 23 million followers to woo them? Yes, the NSUI has creditably protested against the paper leaks. It didn't make as much noise because the mainstream media ignored their protests. But what stops the Congress party leaders from using the CJP's platform and spreading the message of their protets to the wider public? This is or was your chance to bypass the mainstream media and reach out to voters with a bit of a clean slate. It requires a bizarre kind of insecurity to compete with an agitation rather than using it as an opportunity. Leave aside the political strategy for a minute. An activist known for educational innovation is on a hunger strike against the government. His health is deteriorating rapidly. The visuals of him weakening by the day are going through to millions of people on social media. And Rahul Gandhi hasn't given a damn about it. How does that look on your CV? Insensitive or callous?
