My thoughts on the current state of track and field in the United States 👇

Grand Slam Track Los Angeles
• For the first time since 2018, the 100m finals at the USATF Championships won’t be on television but rather on USATF TV - a PPV service.
• The American Track League has lost its Puma sponsorship.
• Diamond League broadcasts (excluding Eugene) have been moved from NBC to FloTrack - another PPV service.
While track and field may not ever be the most popular sport, it isn’t being given a chance to thrive in the United States because the people at the top, namely USATF, are making decisions that are negatively impacting the sport, and that’s an utter shame considering we’re just 1 year away from the USA hosting a World Junior Championship and just 3 years away from them hosting the Olympics.
I’m not about to act like I know all the various business ins and outs, but if USATF and the others involved in that circle think that their current model is going to attract new fans, new sponsors, and inspire the next generation to take up track and field, then they’re seriously deluding themselves.
It’s a sinking ship. And the saddest part about that? It won’t hurt those people in the high-up positions. It’ll hurt the athletes, the people who truly care about the sport the most, and it’ll have a massive ripple effect on further generations if things don’t turn around.
