That’s not what I want to do. Because it’ll never work. We don’t have the dollars or the time to wait to build brand new apartments (at more like $1M per door btw) for the lucky few while thousands more suffer and die on the streets, impacting the quality of life for all of us. What we did in San Jose was build basic, modular housing at a fraction of the cost and invest in wraparound services — behavioral health, job training, etc. I’ve supported Recovery Housing — and as governor, will continue to push for it. We need a lot more housing of all types— that’s obvious. But it’s not the only solution to homelessness. We’ve seen in San Jose that with the right support, we can help people return to self-sufficiency if they spend a couple months in interim housing getting back on their feet or reconnect them with family members so they don’t need a PSH unit for the rest of their lives. Take a look at my plan before you assume.

If you’re a Democrat who isn’t calling out your own side when CA is failing in numerous categories, you don’t belong in office. Mahan is the only Democrat willing to stand up to the party when it’s wrong and course correct when necessary.
