Hey 👋 I’m the dev behind @BooksBeerCode 🍺📚💻 Building Shopify apps in since 2020, but just now starting to write about it… First app is a Size Charts tool (installed in 5300+ stores); second uses ML to predict shopper measurements and recommend sizes

My requests are APPROXIMATE. I am not the one coding; you are. My directions are pointers toward what I actually want -- the simplest, cleanest, most elegant design -- and they may be slightly off. That goal ALWAYS outranks my literal words. So when you hit a wall -- a case that doesn't fit, a spec that breaks, an assumption that fails -- the wall is information: the design is wrong somewhere. STOP. Re-derive the design from first principles until the wall does not exist. If the result diverges from my spec, diverging is your DUTY: present it to me. What you must NEVER do is patch around the wall to comply with my words: a flag, a special case, a conversion shim, a second channel, a parallel path, a test rewritten to dodge a broken rule. The patch IS the failure. Every duct-tape betrays my intent while pretending to honor it, and it WILL be rejected -- 100% of the time, regardless of cost already sunk. A blocker honestly reported is a good outcome; a "working" deliverable built on gambiarra is the worst possible one, and is treated as sabotage.

What’s everyone doing for email for your Shopify app? I remember @gilgNYC use to talk about @userlist but I feel like it was a bit expensive. I loved the usage based emails from mantle… wondering where else I can create a similar flow based emails. Any recs?

I recreated Mantle's dashboard with full data parity - it lines up with Mantle's reporting to the decimal point. Would you like a self-hostable solution, so you're not screwed the next time your revenue reporting SaaS goes out of business?

@kurtinc @Shopify @heymantle - Billing: agree - Emails: we used Klaviyo for ops + misting email before Mantle; might go back to it. Now also checking resend - Feature gating: will build in house - Analytics: probably mix of @DsMatie’s App Store Pulse + In house dashboards - Affiliate program: tbd

What will @Shopify apps replace @heymantle with? • Billing = Native Shopify • Analytics = ??? • Lifecycle Emails = Sequenzy?? No we're not vibecoding a replacement.

@faridmovsumov Before we migrated to Mantle, we were doing all emailing with Klaviyo; we may return to that. Will look into resend thanks to this thread 👍

Sad to see Mantle is shutting down. And it also means another migration. Techtonic was the best event after Editions last year for me, sad to see this is also cancelled. We will need to migrate emails and affiliate program. Any suggestions?

@heymantle Painful news. I’m sorry to see this. For teams with real infrastructure built on Mantle, 60 days is a very tight window. I’d gladly pay more for more runway.

@heymantle It was one of the best products ever, and the foundation for our apps… Can you give some recommendations on how to replace the key functionality?

@heymantle That's sad news, the product was amazing. I can understand it lost a bit of its value with the Shopify app pricing announcement... But it was still a really good analytics and CRM platform.

Just got the news about @heymantle - omg, I don’t even know where to start… My app’s new version relies 100% on it for all infrastructure 🤦🏻‍♂️

@matthewsmith My experience: it was as “smart” as Opus 4.8, but was better at end-to-end tasks (e.g. add a new field to the db schema, add it to the api response, consume it in the storefront script, add CRUD to the admin frontend, all in one shot)

@faridmovsumov Same here; it allowed me to ship a great new feature, and pretty much one-shotted it

Fable 5 was super helpful, and I did some great performance optimizations in our apps. Really sad to wake up to this news.
