So $TAO is the market leader and paved the entire Crypto x AI space forward. It’s an amazing project and will only keep innovating. Playing devils advocate, here are my concerns. I can't emphasize enough how these are constructive questions, I'm looking for solid answers/references and I am offering these from a place of learning. - $4.5M in rewards are paid out per day. It’s unclear to me if subnets are farming rewards or if teams are actively reinvesting this money to create better models and better use cases. This is a lot of money per year at $1.64B. Is it being spent to create better models, or farmed and sold? You do need high issuance in dollar terms to attract tech folks to quit their web2 jobs and leave. As an example, are inferences being routed to Gemini and ChatGPT, if so, what’s the reasoning? - Of the issuance, validators decide what subnets it flows to, but this is arbitrary. The new proposal drives TAO issuance to each subnet programmatically but it’s based off of the subnets AMM price, not usage on the subnet. While hard to quantify it has to be linked to demand in a tighter way. If not, the highly marketed subnets win, not the ones with commercial appeal. We wrote a Delphi post on this a few weeks ago. - The goal is open innovation, but it seems relatively hard ($150k+) to register for a subnet. Within a subnet, you want open competition on models so it’s a meritocracy and the best model wins. This drives value to the smartest people to keep innovating. I’m not sure that’s the case since a good portion of rewards go to subnet owners themselves and the choice of which model to use seems arbitrary. Deciding which model to choose, and when, is extremely hard though so I get it has to be somewhat decided by humans for now. - The current reward structure in this system encourages miners to closely align their models with validators' expectations, akin to a game of bocce where the goal is to get as close as possible to the white ball, representing the validators' criteria. This approach limits innovation because miners focus on matching the validating set rather than truly advancing their models. To foster genuine innovation and elevate model quality, the system must evolve beyond merely incentivizing alignment with existing validation standards. My end game crypto x AI project is as follows ▫️ Users gathering and submitting mass amounts of data to train models and earn tokens ▫️ Millions of specifically intelligent models are trained. They don’t generalize about the world just their niche. Only way we beat OpenAi ▫️ A coordination mechanism decides which specific model to flow to and when.
