The Giants open their voluntary offseason program today under John Harbaugh. With a first-year coach, should be strong attendance. Dexter Lawrence not expected to show after requesting a trade.
Phase One of offseason program allows only for meetings, strength and conditioning and rehab. Playbooks get distributed.
The true beginning of the 2026 season for the players.

Yeah, he had a “down year”—but what people forget is this: without Dex drawing double and triple teams every snap, the entire defense changes. Everyone else suddenly has a harder job because there’s no longer a dominant force taking all the attention.
You don’t realize what you have until it’s gone—and by then, it’s too late. They just need to pay the man so we as fans can have somewhat exciting draft/summer

Dexter Lawrence has a $500K workout bonus, which is tied for the highest on the team. Sacrificing that (barring a quick resolution) with his sights set on a much bigger payoff, in New York or elsewhere.

ESPN sources: Giants All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and he will not be participating in the team’s off-season workout program that opens Tuesday. Lawrence and the Giants have been through two off seasons attempting to negotiate a contract reflecting his value to the Giants over the last three years, but there has not been any progress, per sources.

I’ve been through this before too with Leonard Williams and changed my opinion drastically. Just pay them all honestly. Use void years to cheat the system. It’s a very simple process that the Eagles, Cowboys etc have used to their advantage

Asked Schoen for a follow-up at the owners meetings last week and he provided such a non-answer that I didn't even share it.
My Q: "We asked you a ton about Dex at the combine and you were kind of taken aback by it. Has there been any communication with him about his contract? You expecting him to be happy and showing up on April 7?"
Schoen's answer: "Yeah. We have a lot of those conversations as we continue to build, or to your point, like open up money — where can we do it. Could we do an extension with other players? What does that look like? We're always having those conversations, not only with Dexter, but on other players. And that's part of our mapping out the offseason and planning."

It has been obvious for a long time that this relationship was coming to a crossroads. Have to hope Schoen was just playing dumb at the combine when he was incredulous about all of our questions about Dex's future

The Giants CANNOT afford to lose Dexter Lawrence right now.
Their interior defensive line is already a major question; losing their best player there would be catastrophic.
I get we all like fun draft picks, but we have ZERO idea if they will pan out in the NFL.

The issue is that the Giants are ready to win as far as I’m concerned, they have a quarterback in place. They made the right moves to improve around him and they have the defensive coordinator and coaches in place. If they trade him now that all goes out the window and you won’t get good comp.
