I did read it this speech. Very carefully. The sentiments are certainly noble, but the deliberate omissions are glaringly conspicuous. You don’t get to invoke Václav Havel’s “living in truth” without first accounting for where you yourself have lived inside the lie. Faithfully. And Canada, over the past few years, has struggled badly there, particularly when it comes to the protection of minorities, the enforcement of liberal norms, and the distinction between tolerance and total election and fear-based abdication. A pluralistic society doesn’t “work” because it declares itself pluralistic. It works because the state is willing to defend the civic contract evenly, including when that becomes uncomfortable, unfashionable, or politically risky. This speech speaks movingly about values, legitimacy, and honesty. But it is notably light on the recent moments where those values were selectively applied, often ignored, softly enforced, or rhetorically substituted for action. That doesn’t make it totally meaningless. But it does make it incomplete. And when such a speech arrives at Davos, at this very moment, framed as a moral reset, without reckoning with their own recent past, I struggle to read it as era-defining but rather electioneering, Canada promoting and era-rebranding. Again, perhaps an occupational hazard. In my world, beautiful language doesn’t become truth until behaviour catches up with it… Still, an interesting speech in very interesting times. Like the curse - “May you live in interesting times”. And interesting watching how nations, like brands, attempt to suddenly reposition when the old story no longer convinces. Let’s actually see what Canada does, beyond trying to win confidence and customers at Davos.

For anyone who would like to hear Mark Carney’s outstanding Davos speech in full here it is. This is what true global leadership looks like. Canada should be immensely proud today, because they are leading the fight back when others dare not. 🎥 TikTok - vm.tiktok.com/ZNRBDT4mB/

@SPAriffin96 @stats_feed Now they’re subjugated to the CCP instead of the emperors! There is no difference. Many of the successful millionaires and billionaires in China today have strong ties to the CCP through family. No different than pre-revolutionary china. They traded one master for another

@stats_feed Stripping Puyi of imperial status was not an act of compassion, but a historical necessity. Imperialism had weakened China through failed wars and national humiliation. Socialism was adopted to ensure that China would never again return to that era of subjugation and decline.

China's last emperor, Puyi, spent his final years as a commoner in Beijing. After 10 years in a reeducation camp, he worked as a street sweeper and a botanical garden assistant.

@megynkelly So the entire DJT was in office in 2017-2021 everything Acosta said and did was wrong, lies and antagonistic, but now that you can use him against Israel or the Jews you spout ridiculous hearsay based in no fact and 5th hand at best.

Two final points: it’s true that the Acosta statement re Epstein “belonging to intelligence” & being “above [Acosta’s] pay grade” was hearsay (reporter Vicky Ward hadn’t talked directly to Acosta). However she had spoken to a Trump team member who said Acosta said it & Acosta’s later non-denial denial was pathetic. Also, fwiw, Ari Ben-Menashe (former Israeli intel) - who has quite a history - has publicly stated that Epstein was a Mossad spy & that he (Ben Menashe) was his Israeli handler. Others including Danny Yatom who ran Mossad for 3 years say it’s not true.

@RitchieTorres You are absolutely awesome. You speak with clarity and conviction. If Israel’s neighbors embraced it instead of trying to destroy it for 80 years everyone would be better off, especially the Arab neighbors.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, providing substantial support to proxies like Hamas—the perpetrators of the October 7th massacre. Most alarming of all, Iran is a threshold nuclear power with the stated goal of wiping Israel off the map. Make no mistake: Israel is not the aggressor. It is defending itself against an existential threat that long predates the present preemptive strike. The true aggressor is the Islamic Republic and its empire of terror—an empire stained with the blood of innocent Israelis.

@bjay1111 @SenSchumer Many have paid in some money through second jobs but maybe not enough to get a full benefit but the offset robs them. Also, spouses lose out. My mom a teacher cannot get my dad’s social security he paid into for 60 years? Thats unfair.

Nice spin. So the civil service folks who never had to pay in to social security and got larger retirements as a result, now get social security too, even though they never had to pay into it? Sounds like a typical democratic “expensive” win/hand out/drain on social security……..you guys suck. DOGE should be fun to watch.

Tonight, the Senate finally corrects a fifty-year mistake by passing the Social Security Fairness Act. Millions of retired teachers and firefighters and letter carriers and state and local workers have waited decades for this moment. No longer will public retirees see their hard-earned Social Security benefits robbed from them, thanks to this bill.

WATCH ⚡️ Bill Clinton Calls Out Ignorance: ‘Young People Don’t Know Palestinians Rejected Their Own State!’ “Look, I think what's happened there in the last 25 years is one of the great tragedies of the 21st century. And when I tell the young people, for example, who are understandably in America, they first let's say they're super sympathetic with the Palestinians. Well, they've been killed, a lot of those Palestinians have, and they had and all they know is, there's a lot more Palestinians have been killed than Israelis. And I tell them what Arafat walked away from. And they like, can't believe it. I said, oh yeah, he walked away from a Palestinian state with a capital in East Jerusalem, 96% of the West Bank, 4% of Israel to make up for the 4% that the settlers occupy that were beyond the borders in the 67 war. And I go through all the stuff that was in the deal and they they like it's not on their radar radar screen. They can't even imagine that that happened. And I tell them, you know, the first and most famous victim of an attempt to give the Palestinians a state was prime minister Rabin. Who I, I think, loved him as much as I ever loved another man. And so Rabin, he dies and then Perez is defeated in the election and where the rest of it is history. But you walk away from these once in a lifetime peace opportunities and you can't complain 25 years later when they the doors weren't all still open and all the possibilities weren't still there. You can't do it.”

@BlockHeartBen @washingtonpost Can’t comprise this reporters integrity as they clearly had none to begin with! There would be no hostages, no famine and 38,000 more people alive in Gaza if not for Hamas and their despicable attack on 10/07/2024!

@JosepBorrellF @POTUS The Palestinian civilian deaths would not have happened if Hamas had not 1. Abducted civilians 2. Hid them amongst civilian women &children. 3. If Hamas didn’t use schools, hospitals, mosques and UN facilities to wage war. What has EU done to help release the hostages? NOTHING!

Ok, Fetterman hasn’t yet figured out that just because you’ve always been a Democrat does not mean you have to stay a Democrat. If he believes in the issues he’s been talking about the last few months, he certainly aligns more with the Republican Party. Not everything, I’m sure. But enough to lean Republican. The Democrat Party left sane Americans behind on their march to anti-America Communism/Marxism/Socialism. The problem is many old school Democrats can’t get that thru their heads. They keep voting Democrat because that’s what their daddy did and that’s the only party they’ve ever voted for. Old school Democrats have actually morphed into the Republican Party. I hope they realize that before it’s too late.

"I am not woke." John Fetterman on squatters: “Squatters have no rights. How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?” "It’s wild, that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home and suddenly they have rights. This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?" Fetterman on soft-on-crime policies: "I have gone to police funerals. If this individual is convicted, then he should spend the rest of his life and in prison, and never have an opportunity to get out." "If you have those kinds of established records, It doesn’t serve any greater goal to allow people that are offending, offending, offending and allow them to not be held accountable." "We have to be very smart and aggressive on crime." Source: nypost.com/2024/04/06/us-…
