Brisbane lions vs Essendon Report/ Notes Game Review: It was the second week in a row the lions put on a masterclass, although a lesser opposition they still looked scary good at times. The third quarter Blitzes are good viewing for footy fans. Not much to complain about from a Brisbane point of view. The Lions ball movement and run was back to its best. They had 85+ more marks so that shows the lions controlled from the first minute. Player reviews: Darcy Wilmott - He was best on Ground, his run and skills from half back was the best he has looked. Zac Bailey - we say it each week but he is very good and a pure A grader. Damaging around goals, good by foot and very quick Will Ashcroft - very good again had plenty of it and looked good all day Logan Morris - proving he is lions main key forward and can carry the load without Oscar Allen Dayne Zorko - he didn’t miss a beat and he is still the designated kicker and was awesome all day Hugh McCluggage - he upped his time on ground by 11% and is now at 75% so not far off full minutes, he had 25 touches, 1 goal an 9 clearances very impressive and will only get better Next week: The lions fly home and have the next two games at the at home. Friday night Brisbane take on Carlton at the Gabba night. A game they won’t take lightly. It seems the lions are humming along now, the Melbourne loss seems to have bought them back to earth and they look almost back to some of their best football. Whiteboard drama: Is it really that bad? Every club does it some of it was tongue in cheek. When you win games, whatever works keep doing it. I will update with injuries, VFL report, training ect this week. @superfooty All about helping the poor Vic clubs get their advantage back. 70% of the draft pool just isn't enough. The Northern clubs don't have an endless tap like the comp is made to believe.

Oscar Allen will miss the next 10-12 weeks with a stress fracture The lions injuries keep mounting, but one team that can afford to call on the depth is Brisbane. Although the Lions will regain Dayne Zorko this weekend and Noah Answerth from confusion either this week or next. Darcy Gardiner will be 3-4 weeks also Ty Gallop most likely goes forward and Zane Zakostelsky fill the void down back, Tom Doedee is available and playing some consistent footy in the VFL as he is 100% fit again after years of struggles Eric Hipwood has ramped up training and will be available mid season. Brisbane lions review: A very very classy performance from the lions, controlled it all day and had stars from every line play well, midfielders got on top. They decided to stick with Hugh McCluggage in the midfield and sent Levi Ashcroft to a wing all day and it paid off. The lions bounced back as they alway do and now have Essendon and Carlton the next 2 weeks. Players review: - Lachie Neale, I said it over the pre season some believed me and some didn’t he looked the best ever and is playing like the superstar he is ⭐️ - Zac Bailey was very very clean, quick and is worth the hype - Charlie Cameron he is playing some great football, almost back to his best although the impressive thing is the pressure he is bringing - Linc McCarthy That was very very impressive he got thrown to half back to cover Noah Answerth and he did it amazingly well. 23 disposals and 12 marks - Hugh McCluggage he was managed again with only playing about 2.5 quarters (67%) - Will Ashcroft had the attention early but broke the tag and had 36 touches and a goal - Ryan Lester he is the most underrated player I’ve seen in such a long time, he has the pressure of the backline missing a few but he is ‘mr Reliable’ Next week: The lions move onto Essendon at Marvel stadium. Dayne Zorko is a chance to return as his calf is tracking well. A big watch on Oscar Allen, the ankle seemed fine post game but the lions may opt to play it safe and give him a rest.
