Brisbane lions update: Contract news: Zac Bailey and the Lions have had really positive talks the last few weeks he as stated his preference is to stay. Lachie Neale has interest from Collingwood, Melbourne, Adelaide and WA teams. He is 33 next year but teams will want him still. He also has said the lions is where he’d like to finish but needs to do what’s right for his last couple of years in the game. On the two the lions have made it clear Zac Bailey is the preference due to age and they want him locked in on a long deal. They also have said they will match offers and force a trade for both if they decide to go. Brisbane is still very keen on Jordan Ridley and also Adelaide’s Dan Curtin even if Zac Bailey stays they will try to lure him to the lions. Injury update: Noah Answerth and Jarrod Berry were on the track today at training. VFL: The VFL side are struggling big time due to the AFL having so many players out no standouts. I will report the main session, Injury updates and everything in between #AFLFantasy

@Zane_Wills_ If I had to give a answer on Zorko retiring I would say he thinks he can go again but we will find out I could give a clearer answer in 4 weeks I’d say Lachie a bigger chance to go than Zac

@darcysc I know we are still after Ridley but we really need to look at backline stock, is Zorko going to retire? we might need lachie to go and Zorko to retire unfortunately to hold onto top players because of salary cap.

I am not saying Curtin is going to Brisbane I am saying the lions like him, but let me say this each club has about 35 players they like or want to discuss I agree only happens, if Bailey goes to Adelaide. Also on the Adelaide topic they’d get one only not Bailey and Neale. I’d say Neale 20% chance, Bailey 50%

@darcysc Only way I could see Brisbane thinking it could work is they match Bailey free agency bid then try and force a trade to include Curtin. But if crows don’t want to do that then they have matched a bid on a player who might not want to be there and stretched their cap at same time

Review/notes from last night: A very tough night for the lions last night. It’s a shock to everyone as they don’t lose like that often especially in the last 3 years. We all know what happens when they do lose like this though. It seemed they were flat, Sore and uninterested at times, the effort was the big missing factor it was nonexistent. The lions had too many stars not turn up. The Form of Jasper Fletcher and Hugh McCluggage will be highlighted a lot, both seem to be struggling across the board but mainly seem lost. Injuries come and go the lions do have a lot missing but a team that good with depth last night was very out of character. But one thing you have to do is credit Geelong that was impressive. Harris Andrews has had his worst two weeks in a row but he’s a champion he will respond. The lions perception from the public is ‘they’ll be fine by September, they do this every year’ that’s probably going to happen although the narrative of playing average and coming good can’t always happen, Brisbane will get work all week and bounce back. Brisbane will get back a few good names over the next couple of weeks: Jarrod Berry, Ty Gallop, Linc McCarthy, Noah Answerth, Dayne Zorko and Eric Hipwood is about 3 weeks away. @darcysc Thought Bailey, Will, Morris, Hugh, Harris, Jaspa and Gardiner all pretty average. Kai being a downhill skier all year. Draper needs to be smarter with his decision making around the ground and in front of goal. Marshall Curtin and Jimmy all passengers but all gone soon luckily

Willmott is a major concern for me. Seems lost with his role. Not really giving bounce and exposed the other way. Felt Marshall did some nice stuff under pressure tonight, so hope there. Sadly with the stars we have gone to well many times and it is a bit dry and next level not yet stepping up.
