I went to the boxing gym this morning for the first time in a while. There are several pro kickboxers and MMA guys who train there. A few of them who I regularly work with came up to me wanting to talk about the big fight in Giza, all of them had similar sentiments... “Mike, I don’t get how people are saying Rico was way up late in the fight. What fight were they watching?All the hard shots were landed by Usyk. Rico crowded his work, it was all arm punches. He was done in the 11th. They should’ve let it go to the 12th, but Rico was gonna get slept or lose clear on the cards “.

One of those performances where a fighter completely neglects what gets them the knockouts and forces their work. No body work from Usyk, lazy, followed Rico around, soon as he needed the urgency he turned the wick up. Usyk’s worst ever performance. But still undefeated. JUST!

@dftaylorcomics @CombatCr Yeah I was surprised he was mega consistent for quite a few years. Rico did excellent attacking the body and leaning but Usyk's old now it seems. He couldn't do much of anything

@BoxingQueenx @CombatCr Still to watch the fight, but the weight really caught my eye when it was announced. The clips I’ve seen looked like Usyk was laboured and pudgy.

@Faraguaydied @SugarShane97 @CombatCr Massive age correlation. Almost every washed fighter is washed because of age and most are done at 35 not 39. Usyk's been in hard fights with hard guys same as Canelo, same as GGG, and countless overs. Younger Usyk beats Rico better than old Usyk.

Rico was very impressive and an utter gentleman. He deserved his paycheck and limelight.

@SugarShane97 @CombatCr Too old, had to happen sometime even when you train super hard. He's 39 and his style relies on a lot of moving, reaction, shifting, volume. That's without the surprisingly excellent Rico

Usyk did better than the commentary was giving him credit for (happens every fight). Rico was mostly landing on gloves or slapping Usyk's back. It was a very messy fight (punch wise) aside from some extremely eye-catching shots from Rico. Rico was definitely ahead

@JimKarasBoxing Usyk is too old and a bit heavy. He looked a complete shell of himself even without Rico working on him. He couldn't move/feint/bounce as he could previously. Had to push his punches out rather than snap them out.

I don't know what I just witnessed. Was Rico just better than expected? Was it simply a bad performance from Usyk? Or is it a case of father time being undefeated, and we saw one of the great fighters of this era get old overnight? #UsykRico

Referee fucked up the mouth guard call and overcompensated with the stoppage.

Regardless of outcome Usyk should retire. Should have retired after Dubois
