@TerriersFan MDC rinks in Southie and Neponset for me. Seb's old rink in Nonantum, or after they moved to Needham? Remember when the roof collapsed at St Sebastian's Needham rink. Sometime early 90s, I believe.

@Boyle_OReilly I think the last rink I played in that used chain link instead of plexiglass was the old St. Sebs rink.

Since posting this photo I've identified all those on the ice. L-R The official is Olympian and future Harvard coach/AD Bill Cleary; the BU men are Wakabayashi and Wright; BC goalie is George McPhee, and BC's Jim Mullen, an All American out of Rhode Island, is just a step late.

@teeraps ...and re: Michigan hockey history- if I could spend time with any hockey coach I'd find a way to weedle myself an invitation to one of Red Berenson's wilderness canoe excursions. He's one of those guys who can teach a man a lot of things more important than hockey.

When the Arena was still Boston University's home ice. Probably 1967? Eddie Wright and Herb Wakabayashi, 2/3 of BU'S "United Nations line" team up to put one past BC goaltender George McPhee...I think. Can't identify the BC defender. 60 yrs on Wakabayashi is still a fave for me.

Look, as someone who was altar server age during the introduction of female servers (I was never one, chill out), people forget that it was right after the Spotlight stuff broke, we had no altar servers because no one’s parents would allow them to be in a position where they could be victimized. That’s also probably why parents pulled back from encouraging vocations for people my age — it didn’t seem safe to send your college-aged son to a place like the Josephenium, even if — and maybe especially if — you were particularly devout. Eventually, we’re going to have to tangle with the reality that the 80s and 90s were a low time in Catholicism because of the men who were in charge, the “spirit of Vatican II” guys who were just coming into administrative roles. Clearly, this last decade or so has shown that vocations will happen as those wounds heal and those men retire and pass on. They maybe fewer, but it looks like those fewer, better things will build a stronger foundation.

@TerriersFan @emzanotti @jjl_ice_yard I knew at least 25 of the Boston priests accused of abuse. That I was never abused is unbelievable. I must have given off an ungroomable aura. Shanley had cake and coffee at my house a couple times. My cousin was his classmate at seminary.

@emzanotti @jjl_ice_yard As late as 98 Shanley was at Leo House in NYC. O'Connor wanted to name him director but Law had a quiet word with him. Porter was a story in Boston in the 90s. People bought the few bad apples explanation till 2002.
