I know most people are having fun and running with this meme and it'll be forgotten and onto the next thing tomorrow, but to me, this is yet another canary in the coal mine event warning us of the dangers of social media, engagement farming, and incentivizing views This is not a twitter thing, this has been going on for years and years I first started having these thoughts maybe a decade ago when, after a few years on reddit, I saw the same things on the front page over and over But it wasn't just a reddit thing either The same content that "performed well" would (and still does) show up on facebook, youtube, buzzfeed, everywhere I get that this is memetic in nature and this is how things spread, but it just seems so... inorganic, when they are being spread because people want their internet points number to go up (karma, likes, views, subscribers, etc) I am not saying this to lambaste; I am as guilty of it as anyone. I am saying this because I can't not say it. These thoughts have been swirling around in my head for a decade and increasing in veracity, significantly, over the last 6-12 months AI surely isn't helping. At what point do we even know what accounts are by humans and which are not? It is already difficult to tell. Does it matter? What happens when the vast majority of internet content is regurgitated engagement farming, created by AI bots? These LLM models are trained on the internet too. It's not like we're all of a sudden going to breakout from this trend, it seems like it's only going to get worse and worse. As someone who grew up with the internet in the 90s, there is eternal conflict inside me between playing the great social media game and despising social media Despising it is nonsensical, of course. Social media is not going anywhere. Our world has forever changed. Is it too late to pivot direction away from where we're headed? The inevitable single-mindedness of humanity? A world where the algorithms understand our dopamine riddled brains better than we do? Where being engaging is more valuable than being right? or ethical? or human? I can't help but feel like we're fighting an already lost battle. Anyway, enjoy these pessimistic late night ramblings of my conflicted soul. Part of me thinks I shouldn't tweet this, but then i'd be an even larger hypocrite. I think the best content comes when you have something you can't not say, and not when you are looking for something to have so you can say it. I will say though to be clear: I think nothing bad of anyone tweeting anything for any reasons. I'm a horrific engagement farmer myself and am guilty of everything I am talking about. These are just some of my words that i want out in the world, and who knows, maybe there's something positive that comes from it all.

@jakewittman @Nastradamus_Eth @beaniemaxi @Gfunkera86 @rebootgg_ @pixelvault_ DAOs also need to take some early low cost risks imo that empower the community to participate. There’s also a “what can I do for the DAO” mentality that can get stifled by the consensus mechanism.

DAOs have tried to introduce purposes and OKRs. Thats not the problem imo. The problem right now is the “what can the DAO do for me?” mentality by holders. DAOs / community engagement is positive when floor prices are rising — people are more willing to do “DAO work” and sentiment is positive. When floors crumble, DAOs become an echo chamber and complaint box. Need to find a way to remove price/prospect from the equation to Make DAOs Great Again.

Dao meta is pretty much dead all across crypto. I can’t think of any that have really excelled by delivering value back to members. The best case for some is they haven’t done anything at all and still have most $. Constant voting on senseless things likely burns out many people.
