He’s telling you he was right; even in the final you couldn’t hold your mud. Great character for you to build up to that final scene. It’s a testament to you after all the great things you’ve acted in to still hold this movie in high regard. Many actors scoff at their early work and you embrace it as part of your journey.

In 2012, I reunited with Frank Jasper (Shute from VISION QUEST) to attend the @BeattheStreets wrestling event in Times Square. It’s a great organization that uses the sport of wrestling to empower and transform the lives of underserved youth. And we got to watch some great wrestling! #FlashbackFriday

@MatthewModine Balldozer was such a cool character in the book. French background if I remember right. Otto and Louden were great friends in the book as well, but for dramatic purposes it helped the movie’s arc.

Otto (Gary Kasper) confronts Louden about dropping down to 168 to wrestle “The Shute” in this scene from VISION QUEST. Gary actually tried out for the role of Shute, but it ultimately went to Frank Jasper. That’s a young Forest Whitaker as “Balldozer” in the opening shot. Great tunes! @kevin_nealon A comedian whose lifetime grinding is hitting that perfect moment where they have become an artist of their craft. Kevin, let a civilian come on one of your walks. I will need a rickshaw but we can work out logistics later.

Some heroes pass through your life and disappear in a flash. You get over it. But the good ones, the real ones, the ones who count, stay with you for the long haul. On June 29, 1983, Joe Delaney lost his life while attempting to save three children from drowning. His selflessness left a legacy that extends far beyond football. #RememberJoeDelaney

For anyone who’s ever faced a personal challenge, it doesn’t get much better than the 'Six Minutes' speech in VISION QUEST. This scene wasn’t in the 1979 novel by Terry Davis. Elmo's monologue was written specifically for the film by screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan (THE LAST DETAIL, TAPS). Actor J. C. Quinn absolutely knocks it out of the park here. If you’d like to support the @FMJDiary project, you can bid on an original poster below. I signed and inscribed it with Elmo’s iconic line: “It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.” ebay.us/m/p2kYOc

In my research of the 83 Daingerfield team, I obviously was looking at a few seasons before to follow Thomas Everett’s arc, and the talent out of East Texas at that time was mind blowing. Pre-dated a few years my Billy Simms and Earl Campbell, but his senior year Edwin Simmons was THE biggest prospect in Texas in a talent pool that went deep.

According to Henry Fonda, Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968) ran four years at the same theater in Paris. The identical thing happened in Berlin. It was one of the all-time grossing pictures in Europe, South America, and Japan. But it was a big failure in the USA. Audiences at home simply would not accept Henry Fonda shooting a helpless child in cold blood. The film may be seen on late-night television in the United States, but just as Fonda draws his gun, stations all over the country cut to commercials. ("Fonda My Life", Henry Fonda & Howard Teichmann, 1981) P.S: Remembering the great American actor Henry Fonda on his 121st birthday!

There might have been better football games in Texas High School Football history, but the atmosphere, crowd, back and forth battle, and for sheer fun and enjoyment, this was the most memorable game I ever watched live. It was billed Dexter Butler vs Dane Johnson but it was a total team vs team - coach vs coach battle where every single play seemed to hold maximum importance.

TBT - Sept. 24, 1994 - Stoney Case from Odessa, TX (Permian HS) set the UNM program record for single game TD passes with 6 at BYU. This record has now stood for nearly 32 years. Case holds school records for career total offense (10,651 yds.), career passing (9,460 yds.), career TD passes (67), and was the 1994 WAC Offensive Player of the Year.

@KevG163 10 year old me sat alone one lonely afternoon bemoaning the ending of the season, and had the name of a player I didn’t really know well, seared into my memory bank for life. Watching his game arc was rocket fuel to my imagination.

Happy Birthday, Pat McInally! The #Bengals' 10-year punter/receiver — a 1981 Pro Bowler, First-Team All-Pro, and AFC Champion In 1980's final week, Pat put on a resilient performance for the ages. • Knocked unconscious after taking one of NFL history's most vicious hits early in the game, laid motionless for 10 minutes, and was then carted off • Returned to punt in the second quarter, drawing a roughing the kicker call • Returned as a receiver in the third quarter and made a SPECTACULAR over-the-head game-tying 59-yard touchdown reception

@MatthewModine Terry Davis and I often talk about how you were the perfect choice for Louden. You captured all his essence from the character in the book. Heck of a screenplay written from it as well.

I’m often asked about the pegboard scene in VISION QUEST. That was all me. No stunt doubles or safety measures. I trained for a long time and had to climb it several times to get all the angles. The “trick” is not to over extend, so you’d be pulling up your entire body weight. You have to keep it compact. Arms and elbows tight. 💪🏽 You can support the @FMJDiary project by bidding on a signed VQ poster here: ebay.com/itm/2062521319…

A Texas side note - on the KC defense was #1983Daingerfield captain Eric Everett, #39, but his teammate was former rival from the 1983 3A Texas state championship game against Sweeny, Tracy Simien, #54.
