This is Magpul's 6.8x51mm magazine for the Sig Spear NGSW rifle selected by the army. The US Army conducted a market survey for commercial 6.8 and 7.62 NATO magazines for the Spear in February of 2023. This was more than likely Magpul's offering to the Army after the survey.

This 7/2 letter from @HecklerAndKoch reads like a marketing psyop. With language like "highly sought after" and "order books are closed," this to me sounded less like an explanation and more like gloating salesmanship. So I reached out to HK and they told me the following - officially: 1. The SP5 and MR556 are still in production and shipping (they say daily); 2. All existing orders are being honored; 3. The point was they just can't take new orders until they catch up. As someone who used to import HK parts into the US on a commercial scale, I can almost guarantee that this is an import parts bottleneck issue. Figured y'all would want the scoop.

The Beretta ARX 160 is the shortest serving standard weapon of NATO country released in the 21st century. It was first introduced in 2008 and adopted by the Italian military and has been updated a few times over the years. It currently has 18 years in service and is being replaced by the Beretta NARP. 📸en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_A…

@luc27010 CSAWS jus got adopted, they aren't being replaced anytime soon unless they have issues with them. I'm sure it can be retro fitted for high pressure ammo. Large frame gas guns are always replaced with another gas gun. I haven't seen one get replaced by a bolt gun unless its LE.

@BrandonFDW Interesting. So Delta's inventory looks like the CSAWs (being replaced with the ICAR/HICAR), the Sp10 and I'm guessing a bolt gun? Not accounting for a MG of some sort obviously.

The suppressor on the Surefire ICAR rifle is the MFMD-6 ARC-2.1

@luc27010 iirc its been in use for about 7 years now and they're probably spinning up an RFP for a new gun soon.

@BrandonFDW OH! I assumed MRGG was mostly for delta! Yes, that does make sense then. So delta is keeping the SP10 as their sniper/dmr rifle?

@luc27010 ICAR is for JSOC/(most likely delta only) and the MRGG is for Tier 2 SOCOM units

@BrandonFDW Yeah, makes sense. But then the MRGG-A is kinda dead on arrival isn't it? The MRGG-S is obviously filling a role that's needed, but the A version is basically filling the same role as the ICAR but with a larger/heavier platform...

@luc27010 Its lighter than the MRGG both ammo wise and weapon wise and can reach out to a 800-1000 yards and maintain decent energy on target.

@BrandonFDW I don't get it. What's the point of the ICAR in a world where the MRGG exists? Like sure, it reuses smaller frame ARs... But it's not like SOCOM is exactly short on money... So what's the point?

Tons of people are angry but they seem to forget that HK USA is just an importer (the critical parts of the MR556A4) these weapons. HK Germany is a defense focused company and what they output to the civilian market is their spare capacity. Until HK USA starts manufacturing these weapons in the US they are at the mercy on Germany.
FD@BrandonFDW

HK USA is temporarily suspending orders for its MR556A4 and SP5 due to an increase in global demand for their weapons.

@BrandonFDW Honestly if I was a small arms mfg and was at their level I too would only deal gov. Civ sector sucks and they’re whiny pussies about everything. Insert MK1 drama Insert every comment on every post from HK Insert geissele MRGG comments Insert LMT machining comments Etc.

I agree, KAC is the worst offender and I don't care for their guns. The only reason they make guns for the civilian market is because they don't have as many contracts compared to being fully booked. Reed Knight said he'd rather deal with the gov so I knew that KAC was a lost cause. I remember when they won the USMC suppressor contract, the NT4 was back order for years.

@BrandonFDW Are people honestly retarded? HK is trying to avoid the KAC pitfall of taking 5+ year long back orders. Which is grossly irresponsible. It’s far better for customers, dealers, and HK to close orders and catch up.
