Austin Riley is better than Rafael Devers.
Both are signed through 2033: Riley 22M/yr, Devers 31M/yr.
Devers rejected playing another position. AA doesn't want a player like that.
The Giants would be the ones adding major prospects to send to ATL… and AA would still hang up.

But I’ve always been more interested in what happened before he hit free agency. There was an entire season to work out an extension. Why wasn’t one reached before he hit the open market?

Freddie's side had not "informed Atlanta they were out." They didn't agree on terms, but a deal was still the goal.
Time was short, an opportunity presented itself, and AA made sure the Braves didn't miss out entirely.

@jhare727 What I saw of Freddie's and his family's local commitments don't allow me to even consider that as a possibility. There was little to no incentive to leave, especially since the financial offer to do so was much weaker. His agent drew the line too firmly, and it cost him.

@BravesStats When Freddie’s agent gave them an ultimatum i think that was perceived as “he’s not coming back” but who knows anymore. I’m starting to think Freddie is full of it and has spun a narrative that makes him look like the victim when he was leaving the whole time

@BravesStats @RadioNadkarni Bull Durham came out the second summer I was a AAA batboy and I got to talk to Max Patkin about being in the movie. The players all loved it and I did too. There was never any way I wasn’t going to love it.

I've said many times "AA chose Olson over Freeman" is bad or dishonest framing. With Rizzo off the board and Freeman negotiations at an impasse his options were running out. He chose Olson over John Nogowski.

If they pitched the same number of innings, Player B allowed 31 more runs, which is probably 2-5 more team losses. Presumably Player B pitched even more, so he gave up even more runs, meaning more losses.
