@israel_ajoje He doesn't do the buying and selling anyway. Presumably he has input though.

I am on Slot's side
People are criticizing Slot for Liverpool's £450 million spend this summer. But they are conveniently forgetting the context.
In the summer, Liverpool lost Núñez, Díaz, TAA and Jota (God rest his soul). They lost Four significant contributors. You do not replace that quality and depth with loose change and good vibes. You rebuild. Properly.
That is exactly what Slot was doing. When he said the 450m spend was not "wasted," I understood him. I also understood when he said he's only used 250m of the 450m. Isak has been rarely available and Frimpong and Leoni have been in and out. I understand him.
I think Isak's absence is also a message to the people that think it was a waste to get him and Ekitike. Livepool lost Nunez and Jota. They nedded 2 Cfs and they got two. It's no waste.
The framing of the criticism was always lazy. The net spend after sales tells a very different story to the gross headline figure.
If you strip out the roughly £300 million recouped, and you are looking at a manager navigating a genuine squad overhaul while keeping results ticking. That is responsible football management.
And today's 5-2 dismantling of West Ham is one of the proofs.
This was a Liverpool side missing Isak, long-term with a broken leg. Wirtz still absent. Frimpong not yet at full throttle after his groin troubles. On paper, that is a concerning amount of firepower unavailable.
But in practice, they scored Five goals. The goals were clinical and varied. They had Five scorers. Five different contributors.
The spread of goals reflects exactly what a modern rebuild should produce. Reduced dependency on any single superstar, with the tactical cohesion to punish teams even when your highest-profile signings are in the treatment room.
Squad building success is not measured at the point of purchase. It is measured in moments like today. When the pieces align, the system holds, and the scoreboard does the talking.
Slot knew what he was building. Today, it clicked.

Liverpool make it five! 🛑🖐🏼 Who’s been your Man of the Match?
English

@BRICSinfo Exactly. Blackmail is exactly right to describe what he's doing.
English

@Cryptocris77 @sleepyhead1892 @LFC @MoSalah That is so true. I've seen in 'gee' the team up many a time, not least Istanbul in 2005 - and look how that ended up :-). (Gerard I'm talking about, obviously ;-) )
English

@sleepyhead1892 @LFC @MoSalah Steven Gerard carried Liverpool a lot more than Salah did, no one’s forgotten what he did and people still sing his name, it didn’t stop him being dropped as soon as he wasn’t good enough, Salah is no different except he’s responded very poorly imo.

@PeteKopite @ChrisGreen16_08 Has he not created the Salah issue?

I was always proud of my club, especially in the latest period, with how the club acted after Jota's death, but even before, how the club always respected and treated legends.
These days, I am ashamed of our club for treating our legend like they do.
Mo Salah doesn't deserve that; he should have stayed at least until the end of the season for a proper farewell and goodbye, as he deserves.
I feel sick in my stomach that he will just be sold like that while he's at AFCON, Mo Salah, who gave us so many unforgettable moments, who won every single trophy, broke so many records, etc.
We will have to tell our kids and grandkids that he was forced to leave without a proper farewell, and the management betrayed him.
He knew of a plan to sell him, that's why he spoke with big emotions on Saturday, once again I feel ashamed and I feel so sorry for Mo Salah.
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, you have blood on your hands. This is not how Liverpool Football Club should treat their legends.

English

@EKlTlKE22 He's ill. If he makes a miraculous recover he'll travel out tomorrow. Sounds like a bug so wouldn't want that passing around the team.
English

@TaintlessRed There's nothing wrong in backing Mo but just try a be a bit more balanced.
English

@taahir98 What broken pomises? None of us are privvy to them but you can bet it wasn't that he wouldn't be dropped if he's ineffective in a few games. Also as he's off to AFCON surely, given he's out of form, it's sensible for Slot to leave him out and try other options before he goes.
English

@StrawHatShonen Why do you have to turn on one for the other. Why can't you accept the fact that Salah is below his best and many were calling for him to be benched - and, at the same time, accept that Slot is having to bed new players in, losing Diaz against his wishes - also the loss of Jota.
English

@itsmilliejones He's not a manager, he's a Head Coach and he utilises the tools he is given (players). If you want to apportion blame try looking at the duo who didn't buy players for the positions we need them.
English

@Livin_Liverpool He has a contract, presumably he can't be sold against his wishes.
English

He gave us everything. When you think of the legends of the 21st century, in the last 25 years, you can say Steven Gerrard and after that Mo Salah.
His numbers speak for itself, he broke a lot of records, won a lot of titles.
Imagine if we have to tell our kids that one of the club biggest legends was forced to leave.
He deserves to be here at least until the end of the season, to have the mic to speak to Anfield, to have the biggest farewell as one of our biggest legends.
If we sell him while he's at AFCON, we will become a soulless club, and we weren't like that, that's not Liverpool I fell in love with.

English

@Lfc_samie You are aware that Slot is Head Coach, not Manager, and that Hughes and Edwards, not Slot, are in charge of buying and selling? He chooses his team from whomever they buy and without those they choose (even against his wishes - aka Diaz).
English

He’s disjointed the squad, sold most of the youngsters, and left the rest without any real pathway. No academy player has progressed under Arne Slot. His man-management is poor, he has no connection with the fans, and he barely uses his bench. A manager with no Plan B. Ego of Guardiola but tactics of Garry Neville
