@starsstrikesbb Griffin should not be traded. Prospecting hoarding has worked great for Mike Elias who has won jack shit in 8 years. The team needs pitching help, let’s see where it goes. In sports, do t get in the way of momentum.

After trading away Curtis Mead, the Nationals recalled Brady House from Triple-A. House in his first game today: 2-for-4 2 2B (96.2 MPH, 108.7 MPH) 1 RBI Making an immediate impact after Mead's departure!

@GrantPaulsen This reminds me of the 2012 team that shut strasburg down … I think we go all in .. the offense is too good not to

The Nationals win a massive home series against the Diamondbacks. Back-to-back wins over the weekend to get within one game of the Wild Card. CJ Abrams and James Wood both went deep twice today. What an offense. What a team.

@TalkNats With your win/now mindset. Go for it with what you got and add regardless to the depth hit to the farm system. I don't think there was ever any way you were going to be totally happy with the moves made at this trade deadline.

Trading away Curtis Mead just 3 days after that quote changed the math to make the playoffs. That's a reality since Connerly Early might not make an impact on this #Nats team in 2026. Just one more trade by Toboni that weakened the #Nats for 2026 with his eye on the future.

@hurricaneterp7 @GrantPaulsen “Smh”? I liked Mead, but his production is replaceable. A very talented lefty SP is what we need and Early has years of control. It’s a hard but good move

Paul Toboni said he was watching yesterday’s game in his suite and had a pretty good feel the trade was going to happen. He said when Mead was taking his last AB part of him wanted to cry. You can tell he loves Mead the guy. Also said he thinks he’s going to continue to play at this level moving forward.

@PaulCubbage23 My thing is this: What about Mead looked unsustainable? I saw a disciplined bat with years of team control, on pace for 25+ homers this year. I expected Garcia and Griffin to go, not him. But Early’s K and WHIP numbers are solid for sure

@BrendanLD123 Not super pressing ones, I think his upside is probably limited and that he’s more of a 3 starter, but that’s also pretty valuable to have for multiple years of control. I’ll miss Mead, but it’s a trade we couldn’t pass up

The model is only good when it benefits me, so I’m choosing to agree with it this time
Baseball Trade Values@BaseballValues

Today the #RedSox reportedly acquired IF Curtis Mead ($11.4M surplus trade value) from the #Nationals in exchange for LHP Connelly Early ($30.4M). The deal is rejected by our model as an overpay by Boston.

@GrantPaulsen Why are you pushing for that? Why don’t we sign him for longer term?

Hard to put into words how important Foster Griffin has been over these 105 games of Nats baseball. Butera sending him back out for the 7th at 94 pitches is something he wouldn’t do with any other pitcher on his staff. Griffin has been the adult in the room all season. Treated differently and as the horse. If this is his final start at Nats Park, he’s going out competing like he has all season long. Hope he gets a monster ovation whenever his day is done.

My issue with a buy/sell mix is that it only works if you have non-essential players of value. CJ, Griffin and Garcia are all essential. You need them to have a chance at October. If you deal them, no point in buying, imo. I think you have to choose one path w/ this roster.

Nationals plan to add at least one big-league player and will consider acquiring a player on expiring contract if they deem it is the right fit, per @spencernusbaum_.

@GrantPaulsen @1067theFan Ask Mike Elias how trading key players when your team has momentum works out. 8 years, nada postseason success.

Paul Toboni on @1067TheFan, when asked if the team's successful season has changed the timeline to win: "I think it’d be foolish to say that it’s not accelerating our timeline by some amount but we also want to be really disciplined so we do this right. We’re not winning one year and then losing 90 games the next year."

Good nugget from Paul Toboni on @1067theFan today. The Nats have tried to trade for relievers already. "There have been some guys that've been traded that we’ve been deep in conversations with to try and get. It hasn’t worked out to date. We’re still going to be active in those conversations."

Wood didn’t read that well. And Vivas as a PH is just abysmal. The Tena spot should never be 3-hole
