Sharing 8+ meals a week with people has the same happiness boost as DOUBLING your income. And yet we eat alone 53% more than we did 20 years ago.

@BenRitholtzNBA My condolences. Never met her but knowing Jewish mothers, I know you made her incredibly proud. May her memory be a blessing.

Hey Friends, I lost my mom to a 3-year battle with breast cancer yesterday. I tell you this for 3 reasons: 1) I have the rare opportunity to tell thousands of people simultaneously that she was literally the greatest mother in the world; that I somehow hit the mom jackpot. I thank God every single day for that. And will continue to do so. Feels right to let you all know. 2) To express to you all the following: Knowing your family history can literally save your life and the lives of your loved ones. Do not delay. Do everything in your power to avoid what I now know too well is a brutal disease. Genetic testing helps identify risk early, empowers prevention, and guides better care. Talk to your family. Talk to your doctor. Please. Link here: cancer.org/cancer/types/b… 3) To encourage all of you still blessed with the opportunity, to hug your mommas while you can. Wishing you all love, health, and blessing. Rit/Benjy

The world if Elon took ayahuasca and suddenly decided to become a moderate, followed me, and took my advice to stop caring about politics or the culture wars, and just focus on building rockets, electric cars, and other cool stuff.

This is self-harming behavior, because it’s precisely by guaranteeing our rights to our enemies that we preserve them for us in the long run. (Guaranteeing our rights to our enemies doesn’t mean not doing anything; it’s actually what enables us to do a lot without backlash.)
Gurwinder@G_S_Bhogal

People love it when you defend rights like free speech, until you defend these rights for a designated enemy, then those same people assume you are not defending the rights but the enemy, and they explode with outrage.

This is genuinely surprising to me. If it holds up as a result, I think it suggests that the shocking thing about Luigi, 10/7, and this was not so much that more people are pro-murder but that it's much easier to see them since everyone shares all their opinions constantly.
Justin Grimmer@JustinGrimmer

Using actually comparable questions over time from @PRL_Tweets there has been no change in support for political violence. Even if that weren't true, @ProfessorPape has no evidence (or research design) to connect any changes in opinion to the horrendous acts of violence (in Minnesota, Utah, or elsewhere). We need careful expertise right now, not buzzy talking points.

🎓 The world’s only four-year university for deaf students — Gallaudet University — is a microcosmic example of how heterodoxy leads to flourishing.

@JonHaidt Thank you, Jon. You sparked my interest in heterodoxy, so it means a lot to see you share this. I hope it leads to the kinds of conversations — and disagreements — that make us sharper, in Deaf America & across the country.

@BenRitholtzNBA My scientific theory, based on logging heavy minutes at a teeny-weeny lower level and now running marathons, is this: fatigue layered on fatigue is a wicked dilemma. Do I warm up to feel loose? Or sit still to conserve energy for the suffering ahead? No good answers.

@BenRitholtzNBA Exactly. It’s like a sprained ankle. You sit too long and it turns into concrete. Halftime hits, adrenaline’s gone, and suddenly you're out there moving like your joints belong to Kevin McHale in the 3Q.

@gella8802 @BenRitholtzNBA 1) Kolek doesn't match up well with Clips with Harden at PG and their stable of long wings. 2) It's hard to play well vs. fake/real NBA teams when you're on the floor with only one starter + Achiuwa and Rob. Kolek is ready. Just give him time.

@BenRitholtzNBA If "flopping" refers to when a player exaggerates or pretends to have been fouled to deceive, then what do you call it when a referee exaggerates or pretends there was a flop to deceive? 🤔

@BenRitholtzNBA I once coached a smart kid who could read, write, count, and communicate. But on defense? He’d lose his man, misread plays, and make baffling decisions. Some things can’t be taught: awareness, instincts, focus, reaction speed. (And no, his first name wasn’t Karl-Anthony.)
