I introduced HR 8591, the No Capital Gains Tax on Family Farms Act, with @RepMGP yesterday. The bill preserves family farms by allowing farmers to sell their land to family members without paying capital gains taxes. We are losing too much farmland to data center development.

Congressman Massie, Section 10005 of H.R. 7567 risks wiping out the currently legal hemp industry by redefining hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill from "Delta 9" to “total THC" now. This doesn’t merely regulate Hemp, but will remove the legal foundation that thousands of small businesses rely on. My family business has operated 10+ years while fully compliant under federal law. This change would effectively shut us down overnight. Our livelihoods would he decimated. The hemp-derived cannabinoid market supports ~300,000 jobs and generates tens of billions in annual sales. It produces significant tax revenue for the federal government. Eliminating it won’t stop demand, it will push it into unregulated markets. I know and hear this first hand every single day. Even Rand Paul has warned policies like this could “eradicate the hemp industry” and supports letting states regulate it instead. Please consider revisions that protect small businesses while addressing the alleged safety concerns, such as licensing for small business owners, strictly targeting shops (partically Indian-owned gas stations) that are not complying with the laws for retail sale, and help save tens of thousands of businesses.
