My latest saddle restoration. Lots of washing. Oil. Conditioning. A few small things to fix. New conchos, strap catchers, billets, stirrups, hobbles, strings. It came out to be a nice riding saddle.
Rep. @DarylDeshotel is acting speaker right now. It’s usual for lawmakers to thank either “Mr. Speaker” or “acting speaker” when they take the floor. Rep. Brett Geymann instead thanked “Mr. wannabe speaker,” a bad joke that was met with groans. #lalege#lagov
.@LouisianaGov has removed about $2.4 million in projects from the districts of House conservatives who voted against the spending cap.
Story to come but Reps. Horton, Mack, Crews, McCormick are definitely among those with communities losing money. #lalege#lagov
@TweettheSouth@JSODonoghue@LouisianaGov We did that, sir. I was just jabbing at you since you were jabbing at us. If you really want to know what happened, I’d be glad to share with you one day.
@BrettGeymann@JSODonoghue@LouisianaGov Just use a tick sheet and a pencil, and make sure the people tell you the truth. Nancy Pelosi was great at it, you must agree. :)
@TweettheSouth@JSODonoghue@LouisianaGov Yessir, I will take the blame. I was in charge of the count. I’ve always been proud of my degree in Finance from a university here in LA. Maybe some of those Higher Ed critics are right after all. 🤷.
@TweettheSouth@JSODonoghue@LouisianaGov Yessir. We did think we had 36. At one point we thought we had 46. We lost. We admit it. But we would fight that same fight again tomorrow.
@tegbridges@NOLAnews One of my very best friends in the legislature and an important part of the success of the “fiscal hawks” back in the day. I will truly miss having him around.
@jmollerLBP@BlakeMiguezLA I think what @BlakeMiguezLA was suggesting was the payment of debt with that same $1B would have freed up a significant amount of money over that period of time during the recession etc.
.@BlakeMiguezLA says lifting the spending cap in 2008 led to the budget problems that followed.
False.
The Great Recession, combined with $800M in income-tax breaks for upper-income households, caused the structural deficits of the 2010s.

@TannerDMagee@SSwiber@bjeansonne@JSODonoghue@GregHilburn1@JZeeRep The only position the conservative caucus has taken is not exceeding the expenditure limit. Individual members are free to advocate for other responsible fiscal policies. I have given @JZeeRep credit at every opportunity for his hard work on HB1!
NEWS: Louisiana legislators appear to have reached a tentative agreement to give teachers a $2,000 raise directly in the state budget. House conservatives -- who were the most opposed to doing so -- say they will back a plan with the direct raise. lailluminator.com/2023/05/26/lou…#lalege
@TannerDMagee@bjeansonne@SSwiber@JSODonoghue@GregHilburn1 And to be clear, speaking for myself, I am not ok with not paying off debt. That’s been the cornerstone to every plan we’ve talked about. Additionally, slowing growth and increasing recurring revenues. The original House plan the Chairman moved is the best plan out there.
@TannerDMagee@bjeansonne@SSwiber@JSODonoghue@GregHilburn1 Yes, it’s just talk among legislators. There is no agreement. It’s just a position most have expressed they are willing to consider. Teacher pay is important and so is paying off debt.
