According to three sources the session of Providence Presbyterian Church (PCA) in the Pittsburgh area referred their own associate pastor to Presbytery for an examination over perceived Kinism and Spanglerism. After a specially called session, the Presbytery took the rare move of suspending Rev. Appleton pending trial. Like Michael Spangler and Samuel Ketcham, Appleton attended Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
