Canada Post was once profitable – turning a profit nearly every year from 1995 to 2017, and even paying dividends to Ottawa in 2004 and 2005. That's changed. Since 2018, Canada Post has lost ~$5.4B, depleted its cash reserves, and now depends on ~$2B in federal loans to stay afloat. Its inability to adapt to a changing market raises a hard question for taxpayers: is it time to consider a pivot for Canada Post?

I'm covering the NDP convention this upcoming weekend. If my goal is maximum reach for real people, where should I primarily post, Bluesky or Twitter? I'll throw a few posts up at Gander too, and maybe remind people at LinkedIn that I'm there ... reply with your thoughts!

@JesseBrown Ya man. Normal people just care about men, women, children being subjected to the whims of a brutal apartheid state then subsequently getting genocides for two plus years. Imagine that, being a human being.

It’s so amusing how the far- left keep pushing the “famine” and “genocide” narratives when social media posts by Palestinians themselves easily disprove both
Rachel Gilmore@atRachelGilmore

Pretty revealing that outgoing Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie is willing to break bread with someone who regularly denies the genocide and famine in Gaza. Not to mention his views on safe supply and trans folks. Personally, I’d lose my appetite!

@atRachelGilmore @YorkParamedics Rachel, do you hate Jews because you genuinely are antisemitic or is it because it's leftist policy and you're a semi-sentient robot with a weak mind? Or did the Jewish boys in high school ignore you?

If this is true, it’s a disgusting act of cowardice from @YorkParamedics. Just horrible to campaign for a person to lose their job because they had the audacity to opposes genocide and, as a healthcare worker, specifically condemn Israel’s attacks on healthcare workers. My god.

@fagstein So you don’t think quote tweeting a local story to your 15K followers, most of whom are probably from Montreal, about doxxing a university student to the world has any impact on this persons potential safety?

For the record, the student in this video denies using that word and says she called the woman a cunt. Does that matter? Not really. Will people on the internet yell at each other over what she said anyway? Of course they will. montrealgazette.com/news/local-new…

I read the letter. So basically these students are calling for the end of Israel as a Jewish country (1-state solution, right of return, non-Jewish majority), or even as a country at all (dissolution of Israel, some other solution found for the Jews). We all know very well what happened in 1938, with the Évian Conference and the refusal of any country to accept Jewish refugees from Europe. We all know what happened to these European Jews. This is why it is not only moral but imperative for Jews to have their own country. So what happened in 1938 never happens again, so that Jews have where to escape to should the need arise, the capability to defend themselves. Moreover, like all groups, Jews have a right for self-determination. Self-determination denotes the legal right of people to decide their own destiny in the international order. Self-determination is a core principle of international law, arising from customary international law, but also recognized as a general principle of law, and enshrined in a number of international treaties. These students might not like the current implementation, which is fine - Israel can certainly be criticized and should be, but they are saying the Jews do not have this right and that the entire concept of Zionism should be questioned. This seems extreme, and dangerous. Lastly, Israel's existence was mandated by the U.N. and it is recognised by most of the countries in the world today. It did not form "out of a vacuum" to paraphrase Mr. Guterres. Now, these students might not feel in danger in their campus, but that 6-7x rise in levels of anti-Semitism all over the U.S. has caused many Jews to feel unsafe. Only yesterday a Jew was killed for demonstrating on a street. One day, these students or their descendants might unfortunately need a Jewish state to take them in, when invariably the world again chooses to reject them. I think the solution is basically what the students say - Israel does not speak for them, and they do not speak for Israel. Or rather, Zionistic Jews and anti-Zionistic Jews. Taking it a step further, it might even basically be two self-determined and separate groups. It is fine for such splits to happen in groups. It is natural over time. Let this message not suggest that I support all Israel does. I do not, especially not it's presence in the West Bank. I support a 2-state solution and want Palestinians to have their own self-determination and an end to the Israel-Palestine conflict. But I am a proud Zionist - and as I wrote above, I believe Israel's existence to not only be morally correct, it is also a sad necessity of this world we live in.
