A large majority of Canadians now view the carbon tax as just a tax that makes life more unaffordable and does nothing for the environment. Share if you agree it’s time to axe the carbon tax in 2023. #carbontax #cdnpoli #abpoli

CBC Karen Pauls @karenpaulscbc Accused Of Bias In Humboldt Broncos Coverage Favoring Convicted Killer Over Victims @CBCNews thedaily.ca/cbc-karen-paul… Karen Pauls has built a career at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation marked by persistent bias and editorial choices that prioritize sympathetic portrayals of perpetrators over the profound suffering of victims. In her extensive reporting on the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and Jaskirat Sidhu the man responsible for killing 16 people and injuring 13 she has consistently framed the story around his remorse his mental health challenges and the potential family separation he faces. This approach diminishes the gravity of his negligence and the lasting trauma inflicted on the families who lost loved ones. Pauls has produced multiple articles and segments that grant Sidhu prominent space to discuss his personal struggles while presenting victim perspectives as secondary or balanced counterpoints rather than the central focus they deserve. Her selective editing practices have drawn sharp condemnation from families directly affected. Chris Joseph the father of one victim has publicly accused Pauls of twisting interviews by cutting key statements demanding deportation and using softer production elements for Sidhu family scenes. Such techniques create an emotional imbalance that humanizes the driver at the expense of those mourning irreplaceable losses. Joseph has stated that this pattern has destroyed trust in mainstream media coverage of the tragedy leaving families feeling their voices are manipulated to fit a predetermined narrative. Pauls continued emphasis on humanitarian grounds legal delays and Sidhus family circumstances years after the crash serves only to prolong public attention on the perpetrator while reopening wounds for survivors and bereaved relatives. This reporting style reflects deeper issues in Pauls professional conduct. Rather than delivering straightforward accounts of accountability and justice she has amplified excuses and complexities that soften the consequences of dangerous driving. Internal actions at the broadcaster including monitoring and archiving negative public reactions to her work indicate an awareness of the controversy yet no apparent effort to correct course. Pauls has turned a preventable tragedy rooted in unqualified operation and regulatory failures into a platform for ongoing sympathy toward the individual at fault. Her choices have fueled widespread calls for her removal from such sensitive assignments and for greater scrutiny of taxpayer funded journalism that appears to favor certain narratives over victim centered truth. Pauls body of work on this case exemplifies a failure of journalistic duty. By repeatedly centering the drivers side she has contributed to a public discourse that questions whether Canadian lives hold equal weight when weighed against immigration and family considerations. Families have expressed exhaustion with the cycle of stories that revisit the horror without delivering closure. Her persistence in this vein despite clear backlash reveals a reporter more committed to her framing than to ethical balance or respect for those harmed. The result is coverage that many view as exploitative and dismissive of the human cost at the heart of the Humboldt Broncos story. Pauls approach has damaged credibility and intensified demands that she face professional consequences for undermining the seriousness of this national tragedy.

CBC staff reportedly monitored negative social media reactions to its sympathetic coverage of Humboldt Broncos crash driver Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, archived critical posts, and escalated them internally to executives and security personnel. Canada’s state broadcaster should welcome scrutiny, not funnel criticism to security channels or discuss flagging dissenting journalists. When a taxpayer-funded media institution treats public criticism as a security matter, it risks chilling free expression and undermining trust. westernstandard.news/bc/exclusive-c…

Alberta, Help us identify this man. He walked into Mitch Sylvestre's store, placed two bullets on the counter and said "These are for Mitch." If you know who this man is, contact the RCMP. Here's a statement from Mitch Sylvestre "We will take pictures of you and then we will put you up on the internet and then we will find you. We will identify you. Then we will charge you. And anyone that tells you to do that, we will charge them as well. We will take every step that we can to protect our people. We are conducting a legal democratic path laid out by the Supreme Court of Canada for Alberta Independence."

The formula still does not include hydro power as part of the economic capacity calculation but no fed party that needs votes in Que would ever change this including the @CPC_HQ It’s one of those features of Cda’s ‘asymmetrical federalism’, an ongoing problem with the federation.

“In a Westminster parliamentary democracy, findings of this gravity engage the constitutional convention of Ministerial Responsibility. That principle holds that when ministers authorize unlawful action or preside over serious failures of governance, they are expected to accept responsibility, including resignation from Cabinet. Seven members of the current Cabinet participated in the February 14, 2022 decision. Respect for constitutional norms and democratic accountability now requires that they resign from Cabinet: - Dominic LeBlanc - Mélanie Joly - François-Philippe Champagne - Anita Anand - Patty Hajdu - Marc Miller - Sean Fraser Canada's democracy depends not only on the exercise of power, but on the willingness to relinquish it when the law has been breached.”

Last Friday, the Federal Court of Appeal released one of the most significant constitutional decisions in decades. The Court confirmed that the federal government’s February 14, 2022 invocation of the Emergencies Act was unlawful, that statutory thresholds were not met, and that fundamental Charter rights including freedom of expression, protection against unreasonable search and seizure, were violated. It also held that the freezing of Canadians’ bank accounts was unlawful and occurred without the constitutional safeguards required in a free and democratic society. This is now the second Canadian court to reach the same conclusion. The rule of law has spoken clearly. Yet there has been no public acknowledgement, apology, or explanation from the federal government. In a Westminster parliamentary democracy, findings of this gravity engage the constitutional convention of Ministerial Responsibility. That principle holds that when ministers authorize unlawful action or preside over serious failures of governance, they are expected to accept responsibility, including resignation from Cabinet. The contrast last Friday was striking. On the same day the Federal Court of Appeal condemns the federal government for unlawfully using emergency powers against law-abiding Canadians, that same government announces it will proceed with seizing the property of legal gun owners--or criminalize them for non-compliance. This is not a democratic government. It is a pattern of authoritarian governance. And it explains why so many Albertans feel increasingly alienated from a federal government that no longer respects limits on its power or reflects our values. #AlbertaIndependence

For most owners today the risks of maintaining a Canadian firearms license / PAL outweigh the benefits. It makes us targets. @ABDanielleSmith - issue Alberta Firearms Licenses, make them sufficient for purchasing ammo and possessing firearms, cut Ottawa out of the equation.
Paul Mitchell@PaulMitchell_AB

The Government of Alberta and @ABDanielleSmith need to put their foot down on the latest gun confiscation crap coming out of Ottawa, which is saying there is only a 2 month compliance window even though the Alberta government promised to have our backs. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Do not participate. Do not register. If we approach the end of the amnesty in October with nothing turned-in the government will be forced to abandon this asinine idea. They can’t criminalize hundreds of thousands of citizens overnight. Hold the line. Keep your property.
Tom Mavin@Feral999

Today, Minister Anandasangaree made it explicit: non-compliance will result in criminalization. The police will have the authority to make arrests. @CanadasNFA @Safety_Canada @gary_srp

Anyone thinking of giving up their legally acquired property should feel ashamed of themselves. If they can take away property on a false pretense from the most law abiding (statically) group of Canadians, be sure they will come after the rest of us on other legally owned property next. This isn’t about safety no matter how hard they try to sell that narative.

Appreciate @ConceptualJames shining a light here. He’s right. What happened in Lethbridge is the tip of an iceberg. I’m going to vent a bit. Please, if you care about kids and are concerned about Canada and the horrific direction it is headed, please re-post this, and demand better from our federal government. I’ve been sleepless, and searching for the right word to describe the anger and frustration I feel knowing that this injustice has happened in my home province, and is happening across this country. I am truly grieved. My daughter is 15. These girls assaulted by Atoa are somebody’s daughter too, and a judge released him. Releasing a person who forcibly confines, sexually assaults, trafficked and drugs children is completely indefensible, and it’s nowhere near the standards and values which built this country. Honestly, I have a difficult time recognizing Canada anymore. We used to be known for standing up for those who couldn’t. Now we release child traffickers, child rapists, child sexual abuse material producers and users back into the community. It is madness, and complete and total moral and societal decay. 50 year old Atoa was forcibly confining and offending against 3 children. The 14-year-old was found inside in medical distress, transported to the hospital, and reported being forcibly confined for three days, during which she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Atoa and other men while being forced to consume drugs. Atoa was RELEASED ON BAIL after being charged with: -Human trafficking (trafficking of a person under 18) -Sexual assault of a child under 16 -Sexual interference -Obtaining sexual services of a child for consideration -Indecent exposure to a child under 16 -Sexual exploitation or counsel of a child -Three counts of unlawful confinement He has such little regard for authority and the law that Atoa was re-arrested for breaking his conditions approximately 1/2 HOUR after his release. There are many decent good-willed Canadians who support @NIMCAlly and @albertacentre_ , as well as our excellent Law Enforcement partners including @lethpolice, but bringing justice to victims and holding perpetrators accountable requires MAJOR justice system reform. It also requires Canadians to stand up and demand better for our country, and for our children. Please visit notinmycity.ca/learn and use our free resources to educate yourself on the indicators of human trafficking and to learn what to do when you see it. Awareness AND action is required. There is hope and a better way. But it will require all of us working together. One way to show your outrage and demand change is to sign the #NotInMyCity petition to reverse Canada’s Supreme Court decision which erodes and weakens Canada’s laws protecting kids. Sign the petition, send letters, share widely: notinmycity.ca/protect-our-ch… One click makes a difference. Sign, Send & Share. Let’s make Canada safer for kids. #NotInMyCity #JailNotBail #NotwithstandingClause #EndChildTrafficking
