@glukianoff The only thing that’s been “systematic” in cancel culture is the outsized national clap-back against it. Ask someone who worked in DEI a couple years ago what the consequences have been of cancel culture. You’re frantic over 2014, have you noticed the US as we find it?

@glukianoff The only thing a book says is you’re predisposed to thinking cancel culture was big and real, but in a world where Trump is going after E Jean Carroll, Cosby is free, and J6-ers could be millionaires, you’re yelling “Never Forget!” Never forget what?

Hey Tim, I’m happy to be an ally on free speech issues. But I literally wrote a book about cancel culture, and I’m not going to participate in the collective amnesia surrounding what happened between 2014 and 2024. We can debate causes, consequences, scope, and definitions. What we can’t honestly do is pretend it never happened. a.co/d/0byOvETN

@cannot_stop_ish @Timodc @glukianoff His point is he’s received enough opprobrium, slurs and threats to last several lifetimes, but he’s still person-ed. So, not so much a straw-man as a one-to-one comparison.

@Timodc @glukianoff A straw man characterization, followed by a non-sequitur: “well, you should see the things that people say about me, a person whose job is to get into political fights online.”

@brhodes @jonfavs Yes! Dude I believe you have accumulated just a menagerie of garbage humans on Twitter as your regular commenters. Every last Trump dead-ender chimes in w shit. This time it’s to pretend they support a war that if any other president did it, they’d call for them to be hanged

In the best case scenario, Trump struck a deal to reopen a Strait that was open before the pointless war he started, with the IRGC demonstrating its control over the Strait and potentially extracting fees plus sanctions relief. Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.

I'm not crowing TACO because we should all be glad that Trump's backing down after painting himself into a corner. If he needs to make up stories about "double-sided" ceasefires, fine, let him. (By definition, all ceasefires are "double-sided" or they're not a ceasefire). /1

@Qweezycowpoke @smalls2672 Almost all independents voted for Trump no less than 2 times, or is that not you? Now Trump’s shitting every bed known to man and you want to blame the left and call anybody a cunt who says you fucked up by voting for him. Sure.

@BrianLRidings @smalls2672 I've been a registered independent for almost 20 years. I've voted both ways. I refuse to be put into a box with people like you or Laura loomer. You're all partisan lunatics in your own way and you'll never grow your movement being a cunt. But keep trying, you're good at it.

Biden’s FCC did go after Fox. Biden’s FCC went after Sinclair broadcasting too. In fact, the Biden FCC failed to renew hundreds of routine licenses for that broadcaster — something that the agency had never done before. The Biden FCC also determined and wrote that broadcasters have a “obligation … to take all reasonable measures to eliminate any false, misleading, or deceptive matter.” At the same time, Democrats in Congress pressured cable companies to drop Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax for their newsroom decisions. And that pressure worked in many cases. Those were cable channels, too, that have no broadcast public interest obligations. Earlier, Democrats in Congress wrote the FCC and called on it to investigate the news activities of a conservative broadcaster, including under the FCC’s news distortion policy. Democrats also called on the FCC to block the sale of a radio station in Florida on the grounds that they thought the buyer was conservative, stating “To win in 2022, this must stop!” The sale didn’t go through. The list goes on and on and I have no doubt that it will go on and on again at some point in the future. Remind me - which one of these Democrat actions did you consider weaponization and push back on ?

FCC Chair: Trump is winning. Look at the results—PBS and NPR defunded. Joy Reid, Sleepy-Eyed Chuck Todd, Jim Acosta, John Dickerson are gone. Colbert is leaving. CBS is under new ownership, and soon enough CNN will have new ownership as well.

Every day I watch the chaos in this country and think about how many people got it completely wrong on Joe Biden, especially Democrats and the media. Democrats turned on him and bought into a manufactured narrative, while the press trashed stability, mocked experience, and helped normalize a convicted felon… and now act like none of it happened. A lot of people owe him an apology. Anyone else feel this anger? 🤷

I listened to Obama’s speech, yesterday and he never mentioned Republicans. He did condemn racism and bigotry, which was appropriate since it was the funeral of Jesse Jackson. If you assume that racism is synonymous with Magaism, then you should reconsider your values, Ari.
Ari Fleischer@AriFleischer

If you want to know why Donald Trump was elected, watch Barack Obama’s attack speech yesterday at Jesse Jackson’s funeral. As he did throughout his presidency, he created a straw man to describe Republicans as bigots who force the American people to “turn on each other”. He said similar crap when he was President and the GOP was the party of Bush, McCain and Romney. It’s the language of bitterness and resentment that makes good people recoil to be described that way. Obama is one of the most divisive figures in US history, except he is celebrated by the MSM because they are partisans. They take sides and loved and protected Obama. It’s no wonder a tough, no BS, bull in the China shop emerged. That person was a fed up Trump, who broke the MSM by not caring what they thought. He showed Rs they could punch back against the Ds and win. His rise coincided with the welcome birth, at long last, of conservative media which gave voice to the voiceless who had been forced to consume the prejudices of the MSM. I can’t stand Obama. He was weak, patronizing, condescending and he put America last. But having listened to him yesterday, I reminded the only good thing he did was help elect President Trump.

@AriFleischer That’s some high-octane delusion. But as Trump’s presidency gets more and more disastrous, all those who’ve supported and abetted him will be as desperate as Ari is here to suggest the “extreme” racial politics of Obama made them vote for a self-dealing sociopath.

@Dr_TheHistories He did not “choose” his addiction. His addiction was a given circumstance, not a choice. But choosing to refuse help that was offered (and I’m sure there was plenty), that’s the choice that killed him.

The last haunting photograph of Philip Seymour Hoffman reflects a deeply tragic chapter in his life. By this point, he had relapsed heavily into heroin, a struggle that weighed heavily on both him and those closest to him. His longtime partner of 14 years, Mimi O'Donnell, made the painful decision to ask him to leave their New York home, prioritizing the safety and stability of their three children. Hoffman, ever devoted to his family, respected her wishes. Yet he did not go far—moving only a few blocks away into a hotel. It was there that he reportedly descended into a destructive spiral, enduring a three-month binge of drugs and alcohol. This period of isolation and addiction ultimately culminated in his untimely death, a devastating end to the life of one of cinema’s most gifted actors. The photo was captured by Jeff Vespa at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2014, shortly before his passing. He passed away on February 2, 2014, leaving a significant legacy in cinema.  © History Pictures #drthehistories
