Some people seem to loathe Project Hail Mary because the author’s humor and casual, enthusiastic voice feel too simple and populist for their elevated tastes. That probably cements my status as a simpleton, because I adore it. The science is accessible and exciting, the problem-solving is a blast, and the story is so warm and uplifting that I can see why fans of dark and gritty sci-fi might cringe. That’s fine. There's plenty of fiction perfectly suited for deep thinkers who prefer nihilism and edginess. I’m just thrilled that such heartwarming stories of friendship and courage exist for people with Winnie-the-Pooh brains like me. ❤️

Today, SCOTUS denied certiorari in NRA v. Vullo, leaving in place qualified immunity for the NY bureaucrats who retaliated against the NRA for its pro-gun advocacy. This violated the First Amendment—according to a unanimous SCOTUS in 2024—but QI renders the Constitution inert.

In all seriousness, you could do worse as a symbol for U.S. democracy than the largemouth bass. It can be found in every farm pond, city park, remote lake, sprawling reservoir. It’s pursued by the very rich and very poor. By every color of American. It’s truly the people’s fish.

BREAKING: X legally challenges €120m DSA censorship fine at EU court The EU Commission targeted X because it’s a free speech platform. This landmark case is about whether the EU can police the global digital public square. This is key to stopping EU censorship.

X Files Appeal Against €120M EU Fine Under Digital Services Act X filed an appeal at the General Court of the European Union challenging the €120 million fine imposed by the European Commission on 5 December 2025, the first non-compliance fine under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This EU Decision resulted from an incomplete and superficial investigation, grave procedural errors, a tortured interpretation of the obligations under the DSA, and systematic breaches of rights of defence and basic due process requirements suggesting prosecutorial bias. This landmark case is the first judicial challenge to a DSA fine and could set important precedents for enforcement, penalty calculations, and fundamental rights protections under the 2022 regulation. X remains committed to user safety and transparency while defending our users' access to the only global town square.

If Grok is far behind the other frontier models because Elon keeps trying to make it "based", that's an incredibly bullish sign for AI alignment. It suggests that AI can only think well when it also takes on the values of humanity as a whole.
