In the latest Research Paper, @LaurenceT1942 and @Jack_Watling examine what a future British rifle needs to look like after more than 40 years without a full in-service replacement.
The paper does not advocate for a specific make, model or variant. Instead, it focuses on the characteristics, compromises and design trade-offs required to meet the demands of the emerging operating environment.
The authors explore the competing pressures shaping any future system: range versus lethality, accuracy versus volume of fire, and performance against evolving body armour. All set against a battlefield defined by complex terrain, close fighting, and vehicle-based operations.
One conclusion stands out. The UK should select the calibre and rifle that best suits its operational requirements, rather than a less suitable weapon chosen primarily to align with some Allies.
We’ve attached a few snapshots as a preview, but the full analysis is well worth the read.

@DirkBruere @pinstripedline Thank you, although I sense it’s a little more sophisticated than you suggest. Thanks again, and it’s great you show an interest in defence.

@BrigWilly @pinstripedline Determines whether or not we are a banana republic
English

@DirkBruere @pinstripedline It’s a common question (normally from those who don’t understand Defence), but could you help me understand its relevance?

@MattyK166 @nicholadrummond And even further away from any form of robotic infantryman that can reason with people on the ground. Infantrymen do so much more than simple target ID and engagement

rolexes can be quite expensive! the paul newman daytona fetched $18M at auction. much depends on tiny details. a submariner can be anywhere between $9k to $500k depending on the year and model
Kevín@KevOnStage
For a long time I thought a Rolex was the most expensive watch there was. 😂
English

@dieworkwear I always thought about getting an expensive watch until I researched the knockoff forums. Sooo many rolexes have knockoffs with "As Good As Genuine" that I can't justify 10k when the same quality is $500

It’s important to remember, despite what you may hear elsewhere, Veterans are not wrecks of their former selves, cast aside by their old world - but are “actually in a much cooler club now…!”
What do you do now that leans on your mil experience to support others?

Earlier this year we met the @MercianRegiment’s Ram mascot, who was still getting used to his ceremonial role following the retirement of his predecessor.
