This is why it’s a travesty we didn’t get the Conference spot. Most of the teams in this competition are a significant level lower to the Premier League. Hence why we’ve seen PL teams do so well. Beat Larnaca and they’re in the quarter finals. But Palace don’t care, and nor would we. It’s a trophy. A reminder that we finished 8th last season, which would have been good enough if City (or the ref) did their job in the final.

Since, the return of Groß there has been a clear emphasis on, not only intensity of training, but quality of the training. Fabian, rightly, has made that the primary factor in selecting non core players on match day. That is how you create healthy intra-squad competition

🙄As expected, zero formal mention of Chelsea's 'punishment' at today's Premier League meeting of clubs. Some water cooler talk, but that was it.

@Shadowmaster773 Yeah, I try to be cautious not to raise hopes. But for a few reasons, likewise..

I love our Japanese fans. Whilst Mitoma, clearly is the gateway, they follow all our players and even inherited a bit of the Chelsea rivalry… as seen in the post below (though not sure if he’s calling the player or Chelsea itself “bastard”, or a bad translation). I’ve seen Japanese fans with Milner on the back of their shirts, Van Hecke, probably others. They’ve completely embraced the club.

@Figmund2 It’s genuinely mad to me when people argue me on something I have never once said. Especially in this case as I’ve taken flak for backing the head coach at times. I look forward to you withdrawing your claim I called FH ‘a yes man’.

@Figmund2 You may have me confused with someone else? I don’t think I’ve ever once referred to FH as a ‘yes man’. On the contrary, I have backed him up on here many times even when he was under heavy flack and given credit.

It’s true, But having thought this over since this annoying news broke out, I recall it’s not the first time. Was thinking back to when we lost out on Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea. Instead we bought Diego Gomez and O’Riley (we can argue the merits of each in a separate discussion). And we also had other CMs if I recall very heavily reported to be waiting on a call from Brighton. So perhaps that is how the club pivot. As it’s not just going to be Chelsea, there will always be richer clubs. We can’t have singular targets like the elite. We have multiple targets, all the same profile, all lined up in a row. So if this transpires, Said El-Mala is one name on that list, and we have 2-3 others.

We've talked about this at length, the true test of Tony's system is when bigger clubs essentially use it for free when agents get them involved to swoop in late. How do #BHAFC adapt? Can we?

@LouisBHAFT Exactly Bild report, a mere 24hrs prior paints an encouraging picture for Brighton getting him.

Agree, I think we have adapted our model already by also now buying players in a more expensive bracket. And some more established ages (Ferdi, Mats, Boscagli). What’s happening here with being gazumped (if we have been) is not just a Brighton problem, we will always lose to the elite rich clubs on finance. It’s just very difficult to compete with them.

@Brightonian_ I should qualify that statement. Looking to acquire players for around the €30m mark is problematic & not our traditional model. We lost out on Palmer, Kudus, Nunez & Dewsbury Hall. Many of the €250m spend already look like 2nd choices.

@Figmund2 “The model will eventual fail” Perhaps. I don’t know if I can be that definitive That’s a guess isn’t it? And we need to define ‘fail’. Eg If it means we’re still a top half PL club, I’m not sure Bloom or the club see that as failing. Failing to me would be relegation.

@Brightonian_ But if we only get the players they don’t want, while still spending big money, the model will eventually fail. O’Riley was the last minute alternative for Dewbury-Hall. Gomez different market.

Hear what you’re saying, I think the club won’t get every transfer right and that’s fine, normal. Of that big summer splurge the only play who looks like we can right off is possible O’Riley. I’m personally not willing to write off the others completely. Babis, Tzimas, Minteh, Yalcouye, Watson all still very young and things can change quickly in football.

@Brightonian_ Yes I may have worded that wrong in regards to buying players for instant success. The point that I was woefully trying to make was. We have invested a lot of money in a lot of young players & as it stands we are not seeing the benefit of that investment.

The process that resulted in Chelsea’s sanction looks more questionable the closer one looks at it. Seems there’s politics at play here and a precedent has been set that Man City will aim to exploit. Should the Regulator force the PL to publicly explain their actions ?
