Allow me to share something intimate from his life - this is the Silver Berlin Bear Marvin won for his role in Cat Ballou at the 1965 Berlin Film Festival a role for which he also won the Oscar for Best Actor in a leading role at the 1966 Academy Awards having won almost everything else in between.
Many years ago I had the opportunity to purchase this from his estate and I always imagine the famous hands it has passed through, including his.

@SpeechUnion I've said it for a long time. Rory Stewart is a legend in his own mind. He truly believes he is the greatest Prime Minister we've never had.
Personally, I find him mediocre at best.

For @RoryStewartUK it really is as simple as this:
- he’s lived in Muslim countries and has had a good time and been treated well.
- he wants to be a good person and spread that story, as well as show off that experience.
- he will have Muslim friends
However he doesn’t let himself consider that:
1) His interactions with Muslims came from a privelaged position. Of course they treated him well.
2) In the UK he’s rubbing shoulders with the top 2%, Muslims included.
3) With Islam, it’s the group level trends that matter, not the individual good Muslims.
4) it’s ludicrous to think religions from founders as different as Muhammad and Jesus would be equally good. Muhammad was an insane, cruel, pedophile warlord.

Why are British people singling out Islam as the religion they fear, when other religions do terrible things?
Well they ‘don’t do terribly many of them in this country’ points out Will Jones.
Which is probably why we don’t ‘fret that Britain will suffer yet another massive terror attack by Buddhists, or call for a Confucian rape gang inquiry.’

Rory Stewart’s opinion on Islamophobia is delusional drivel. As ever, the former Conservative Cabinet Minister turned podcaster has got it wrong. Writing in The Telegraph, Michael Deacon summarised Stewart’s recent remarks as “People who criticise Islam are racist bigots”. In an interview with The New Statesman, @RoryStewartUK said: “I think we’ve got to be very clear that this is basically racism… All those people on social media who are talking about ‘Judeo-Christian values’, and saying, ‘I’ve got nothing against people of colour, I just don’t like Islam’, are basically racist.” One of the central problems with the Government’s new official definition of Islamophobia — repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — is that Islam is not a race; it is a religion. In a free society, no religion should be shielded from legitimate challenge and debate. We have not had blasphemy laws in England and Wales since Parliament abolished them in 2008 — yet this Government appears to be reviving them by the back door. As predicted, the definition is already being weaponised to silence criticism of Islam, its practices, and its history — most notably in the case of Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy, who was branded racist after criticising a mass Muslim prayer event in Trafalgar Square.
