British Red Cross 🧡

Last week, we hosted @BritishRedCross CEO Béatrice Butsana-Sita and @WWF_UK CEO Tanya Steele in Kwale to see some of the community-led climate resilience initiatives supported through our partnership. From youth groups turning coconut husks into potting bags for tree seedlings, to mangrove and coral reef restoration along the coast, communities are driving real climate solutions on the ground. In Lamu, Kenya Red Cross and @WWF_Kenya are also working with communities to conserve 900 hectares of coastal ecosystems, thanks to funds raised by players of @PostcodeLottery.

In an ever-changing world, we all experience change in different ways. But the importance of compassion, connection, and kindness remains the same. Whatever's happening, one thing is constant: the British Red Cross is here, offering support to anyone, anywhere who needs us. ❤️

Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. Across the world, volunteers and staff from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement show up every day for people in crisis, responding in their own communities, helping neighbours, supporting families, and standing on the frontlines of emergencies that affect them too. Because beyond every emergency, every response, and every emblem, there is one truth: we are United in Humanity. #UnitedInHumanity

Climate change is already increasing humanitarian need, with floods, droughts, heatwaves and storms becoming more frequent and severe. But Red Cross and Red Crescent teams are supporting communities most at risk. Together, we can make a difference. 🌎❤️ #EarthDay

Every single one of those 14 million people is a life uprooted, a home left behind, a world changed forever. People just like us. Remembering the real people behind these numbers is essential to making sure we never forget our shared humanity.

Today, on what would've been her 100th birthday, we remember the late Queen Elizabeth II's dedication to the British Red Cross. She gave the Red Cross her unwavering support throughout her life. We'll always remember her for her sense of duty and incredible service.

The tragic death of our colleague Hassan Badawi earlier this week is a stark reminder that humanitarian workers must be protected. No one should have to risk their life to save another. 💔 @RedCrossLebanon

As we mark three years of conflict in Sudan, we mourn our 22 Sudanese Red Crescent Society colleagues who have been tragically killed while on duty. We will always remember their commitment to their communities.

We are deeply saddened by this news. Our thoughts are with Hassan's loved ones and colleagues. Humanitarian workers must be able to do their jobs safely.

"We see them acting under incredible risks and with incredible constraints to their work." 🇸🇩 Claire Clement from the @BritishRedCross visited Chatham House to discuss the work of the @SudaneseRedCres in Sudan, as this week marks the third anniversary of the conflict. 🏥

I am appalled and saddened by the killing of the Lebanese Red Cross @RedCrossLebanon paramedic Hassan Badawi and the injury of another colleague while on a humanitarian mission in Bint Jbeil in the Nabatiye Governorate in Southern Lebanon on 12 April. The @IFRC extends its deepest condolences to Hassan’s family and wish full recovery to the injured. The ambulances and their crews were clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem on all visible sides. I strongly condemn this attack. Humanitarian workers are not a target. The IFRC reiterates its call that ambulance personnel, medical staff, and Lebanese Red Cross staff and volunteers must be respected and protected at all times. Hassan is the second Lebanese Red Cross volunteer killed in the line of duty since 2 March. This must stop.

📍 Iran | We are deeply distressed by the loss of Abolfazl Dehnavi, a volunteer with the Iranian Red Crescent Society, killed in an airstrike in Mobarakeh County, Isfahan, on 4 April. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, his colleagues and all those affected by this painful loss.

I am heartbroken and outraged. Today we mourn Abolfazl Dahanavi, a 20-year-old Iranian Red Crescent @Iranian_RCS volunteer killed on 4 April in Isfahan Province while carrying out humanitarian activities. Abolfazl is the fourth Iranian Red Crescent volunteer killed in the line of duty since 28 February. Four lives lost in five weeks, all while trying to help others survive. This is unjustifiable. We have mourned before. We have called for protection before. We are calling again with greater urgency and outrage: the killing of humanitarian personnel must stop. My deepest condolences go to Abolfazl’s family, his loved ones, and his colleagues in the Iranian Red Crescent Society. We stand beside them in grief and in solidarity. 👉bit.ly/4cpU8LR
