I won’t lie about 70s public services to make a political point But I also think private capital ownership hasn’t fixed performance & has definitely increased real terms cost Both things can be possible. Maybe the funding model isnt always the only variable?

@BladeoftheS I would never defend Thatcher and I don’t know how old you are, but I can assure you that Water, Energy, Rail and Mail were absolutely NOT the best run services in the world pre-1979. They were crippled by unions and lengthy employment disputes. The 70s were a hideous decade.

Until 1979 when Margaret Thatcher took over, Water, Energy, Rail and Mail were some of the cheapest and best run services in the entire world. Then suddenly she said we can't afford them because she wanted to privatise them and they began to fail. What a strange coincidence.

@spudgun01 @grlfc58 @BladeoftheS That didn’t work though More public money spent on water AND higher bills now The privatisation of water hasn’t brought progress that was anticipated by Mrs Thatcher’s government I won’t pretend public services were great in the 70s but privatisation added cost & not delivered

@grlfc58 @BladeoftheS Wrong. They were privatised so that the Government didnt have to continue financing something they didnt want to be responsible for. Period. In fact, the normal man on the street could invest and buy shares, which many did and made money.

@S4LAHHH @LFCKenn @SeanDOlfc Totally agree - we’re painful to watch and ineffective. In truth we’ve had it great for most of the last 10 years with exciting, aesthetic and effective football. Arsenal are equally painful & turgid to watch, but they do manage to win a lot of games.
