Budd Schulberg's The Harder They Fall, imho, is the finest book written about the reality and darkness of #boxing. The 1956 movie version, Humphrey Bogart's last film, is on @TCM right now. I'd forgotten what a timeless statement it was and IS about the unforgiving. exploitative, unsafe carnival-like world that has always characterized combat sports. Read the book. Watch the film. Both are stinging commentary and still feel relevant. Too little has really changed. Remembering Budd, a friend and brilliant mind.

@combatsporrt Maybe yes, maybe no (because with heavyweights, anything can happen) but we know that Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman could and did stop Lewis, who was a very good fighter, so there’s that.

William Zepeda defeats Lamont Roach Jr by Unanimous decision. Great performance by Zepeda. The constant pressure worked all night to a clear victory. Lamont has to go back and decide how to move after 2 draws and a loss. Tough stretch for my fellow DC native. Zepeda is a threat for anybody at 135 no matter the name. Maybe 140 as well.

Underrated great win for Carbajal. Terrific puncher and fighter.
