Interesting stuff. The social cost of carbon is way higher than current carbon offset prices. This can only drive things in the wrong direction. Instead, isn't it time to shift the conversation to: how can corporations meaninfully contribute to society's well-being?

50 yrs ago the authors of The #LimitstoGrowth called for forward looking policy to prevent humanity from overshooting planetary limits. Now more than ever we need transformative thinking and collective action to address the issues we face as part of the planetary emergency #ltg50

In the last few years, BP, Shell, and ExxonMobil have announced net-zero climate pledges. They've spent millions of dollars advertising their investments in clean energy. Last week, all 3 companies changed up those plans and said they are doubling down on fossil fuels. 🧵

Our new paper in @NatureClimate finds 1.5C pathways underestimate how much Global North must cut CO2 emissions and how fast oil & gas must be phased out globally This is because pathways rely too much on phasing out coal, with less emphasis on oil & gas. #article-info" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nature.com/articles/s4155…

As a google-born 90s kid I haven’t spend much of my time in mines but I’m quite accustomed to data mining. I hope that you haven’t spent much of your time worrying about @JohnLeePettim13 thread. Earth will not be destroyed because of energy transition related mining.🧵1/26

The last panel session of the #idric1 Industrial Decarbonisation Showcase. A very informative discussion bringing together different views on the delivery and deliverability of policy and how it will help incentivise investment. Many thanks to Keith MacLean and the panellists.

1/ This Package is not perfect. The coal change and a weak outcome on loss and damage are blows. But it is real progress and elements of the Glasgow Package are a lifeline for my country. We must not discount the crucial wins covered in this package:
