@MTGNerdGirl @Tauna_YT A non-trivial number of players feel they are entitled to the grift attempts. And if replacements were free, a more than non-trivial amount would absolutely try it.

Someone in my group checked out of their hotel and left their Magic Con badge on accident. They insisted that he buy a new badge at full price, but deactivated the swag because he had already claimed it before on the other badge. This is greedy on so many levels.

@ScottLarabee @GenTXer2 If transformers the movie had a sequel where Hot Rod ran away from his responsibilities and pretended to be a sports car for a dude going clubbing…this would be playing on his radio.

@532atMTGO I don’t like the fact that the “mistake” of the mulldrifter is only realized when the cards are revealed to the opponent.

Questionable head judge ruling at Paupergeddon. 🤔 Played Friday Team Pauper Trios and had a ruling I strongly disagreed with. Opponent casts Preordain: puts 1 top, 1 bottom, draws a card. A few seconds later, he changes his mind and tries to put both on top. He grabs the “bottom” card plus one from his hand and starts resolving again. I stop him - he already mixed the drawn card into his hand. Judge call → ruling: reveal two cards and I re-resolve his Preordain. Here’s the issue: one of those cards was Mulldrifter he had snapped that same turn, so I knew it wasn’t from the Preordain. The missing card was still somewhere in hand. Judge says it doesn’t matter because “he’ll draw both anyway next turn.” I appeal. After ~25 minutes, opponent even admits he put the wrong card into the pile… ruling stays the same because it was a “mistake”. So as I understand it:
• If he goes 1 top / 1 bottom → fine
• But if he switches to 2 top → he effectively gains access to an extra unknown card if I put Mulldrifter on top. Feels like turning Preordain into small Brainstorm (draw two, put one back). Am I missing something here? Was the ruling correct? @fireshoes

Designed a deck to maximize my chances of winning in untimed rounds in top 16. Unfortunately, top 16 isn’t untimed—it’s 3 hours, then the highest remaining seat wins. I reached an unassailable position, but ran out of time. I was too focused on my game rather than the tournament-

@SaffronOlive Very glad they didn’t do the hybrid change. They might argue that it’s an *or* but they clearly mean for it to be played as an *and* with how it works in any environment outside of limited.

@SaffronOlive @ChefGreginald It is. If they cared, they wouldn’t have killed the legacy program, or Judge Academy, or go two years without even acknowledging judges. The people that cared, are the folks who busted their asses to keep the lights on and the wheels on the bus after wotc tried to wreck it.

Wizards hiring a judge program coordinator is a pretty big deal. At a minimum it sends a message that they do care about competitive integrity and organized play.

@OMGBeardd @PlayMTG I’m referring to the approach of telling people they are wrong and they don’t understand something. You can correct and educate without making it confrontational or breaking etiquette.

It’s very frustrating watch people, including well known content creators, make comments about judges and the judge program as though they actually have a clue as to what’s going on.

@OMGBeardd @PlayMTG Yes. It is a breach of social etiquette to tell someone they built their deck wrong because they don’t understand the game.

@PlayMTG Commander regularly tests that knowledge but it feels perverse or unwelcome to actually apply it to ingame situations because it almost feels like a breach of social etiquette to tell someone they've built their deck completely wrong because they don't understand the game.

@DrStevenPhD @NikachuMTG It’s a strong indication they know something is more involved & the judge should ask something like “you seem to think something more is at play. Is there a rules question you’re curious about?” There could be other factors like a leyline that’s the real ? behind the ?

@NikachuMTG No one is taking into account that the very act of asking the question shows the player knows the context of the situation and understands the rules enough that saying "yes" or "no" is not advice/coaching.

I don’t even understand how this is a debate. I expect the judge to say “No” and I don’t see how that’s such a big deal or strategic advice. “If I play Lightning Bolt, does Goyf die?” Is a very different question from “How do I kill this Goyf with Lightning Bolt?”
Garrison@HanweirGarrison

There’s a 2/3 Tarmogoyf on the board with no instant in graveyard. You ask a judge “if I bolt that goyf, will it die?” How do you want the judge to answer?

@HanweirGarrison “You seem to think there’s something more about this interaction. Is there a specific rules question you have?” Or variant. it might feel stupid cause you know what the players asking. But you don’t. Ur assuming. & assuming they didn’t leave out another relevant interaction.

Kinda annoyed at a couple cedh people lately, as they buy nothing, proxy everything, and complain that they aren't catered to at one of the shops. Of course you aren't, a monthly tournament doesn't keep the lights on.
