@RM_Transit I’m not arguing we shouldn’t, but we have different pressures and cultures. We’re 41M in the 2nd largest land mass. Japan is 122M on a small island. I’m saying eVTOLs will happen first in NA before HSR red tape and land disputes (we are more about individual rights here

We should pursue both, but building highways in the sky will happen faster than fighting over land disputes and municipalities/provincial regulators unable to agree. Air is federal and Canada should copy the USA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP).

@RM_Transit Canada used to be the scrappy kid who’d hotwire a plan and lay track through mountains. Now we’re the middle manager in a cul-de-sac, begging consultants for permission to repave the driveway.

Canada is a very good country at buying something like a factory from a country that actually innovates and makes things and then sets it up with tons of government money and then brags to its populace that it actually does have a little slice of the building in the world.

I would consider moving to Peterborough if it meant cheaper housing and it was more connected. I’m sure many others would as well. That’s at least +1 population for Peterborough. The stakeholders for these infrastructure projects care about more than cash. There doesn’t have to be an immediate business case for transit projects if it leads to 2nd and 3rd order net improvements such as lowered congestion, new transit and thus economic hubs (tax revenue), better connectivity thus flexible housing options, time savings (productivity), etc.

@RM_Transit Unlike flying on a commercial plane, taking a helicopter is more dangerous than driving. There’s no way that eVTOLs will be safer any time soon, especially with air traffic and the possibility of collateral damage.

With due respect to someone who has literally done a lot more to be civically involved than me. Canada cannot be a great nation if we say the infrastructure that is standard in other developed countries isn't necessary because of a pie in the sky future technology.

Tall poppy syndrome is in full swing. Canadians tearing down a Canadian over a political opinion they disagree with. Perfect rage bait. Tobi is one of the most patriotic Canadians of his generation. With an exceptional team, he built one of the defining companies of the 21st century. He could have easily moved to the United States as so many Canadian entrepreneurs have, and as he was almost certainly pressured to do. Instead, he stayed. He built from Canada. He created thousands of high-paying jobs and proved that a globally important technology company could be built here. You don’t have to agree with everything someone says to recognize what they have contributed. And you certainly don't need to attack their character because you disagree. A country that attacks its builders every time they express an unpopular opinion will eventually run out of builders.
