@ClareMaryJones Clare, I’m sorry that this happened to you but glad others came to your assistance. Having been through something similar the only piece of advice I can give was that it wasn’t personal. This might not help now but it will in the future.

I’ve always found the look-for-the-helpers thing useful when processing horrible situations. This week I had a personal reminder of it. On Monday, a man mugged me just outside my flat (terrifying etc). But: so many people helped me, instantly and without question.

I'm very sad to say that Claire, my amazing wife of nearly 25 years passed away at the weekend following a year of living with cancer. She was an extraordinary partner, mother, friend, colleague, distinguished academic @UCLgeography and gave so much to others.
