i think a lot of leftists are so weirdly defensive about veganism because it’s the one thing they can’t be performative about as it requires actual habitual changes instead of just retweeting useless petitions on twitter dot com

the thing i hate most about yt vegans is stuff like when i try to talk to them about stuff like at least not eating cashews bc of the ridiculous amount of exploitation and the hazards involved in harvesting it and they refuse to even listen..

i would never argue with a vegan because they’re making the morally correct decision and i’m not. i don’t have any truly sound way to counter their perspective from a moral standpoint. so i just practice cognitive dissonance and eat my beef and pork and keep my mouth shut.

Non-vegan leftists hate veganism because it's the one "morally correct" position you actually have to put effort into and can't just virtue signal (ie anti-fascism, anti-billionaire, anti-racism pro-LGBTQ).

You are definitely not reducing the amount of cropland needed, not even compared to factory farming much less compared to just eating plants directly. Efficiency matters here because of thermodynamics. Factory farms are the way they are to reduce resources as much as possible such as land, water, etc. this is why factory farms are the way they are.
