Because supporting human beings being bombed, displaced, starved, or killed is not the same thing as endorsing every belief held inside that society. A lot of people cannot seem to separate “these civilians should not suffer” from “I fully agree with their culture, religion, politics, or laws.” Most LGBT people supporting Palestinians are supporting civilians, families, children, basic human rights, and opposition to mass suffering. They are not marching around going “wow I sure love conservative religious attitudes toward homosexuality.” And honestly, history is full of oppressed groups recognizing suffering in other oppressed groups even when they wouldn’t perfectly agree with each other socially or culturally. You also have to remember Palestine is not a monolithic hive mind. Millions of people exist there with different beliefs, generations, politics, levels of religiosity, and personal views. Some are conservative. Some are progressive. Some are terrified and just trying to survive another week. The internet keeps trying to flatten entire populations into cartoon factions because nuance dies instantly online. You can oppose homophobia while also opposing civilians being blown apart. Those positions are not mutually exclusive unless someone’s morality only functions through tribal loyalty and revenge logic.

Can anyone help me understand this, because I genuinely don’t get it. LGBT are imprisoned, tortured, and killed in ‘Palestine.’ So how come the LGBT community is one of the biggest supporters of Palestine?
