Innocent bike rider k+lled by the mob after a false b@ndit alarm raised in Lagos The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed viral social media reports claiming that Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, Oke-Afo and other parts of Lagos State are under att@ck by armed b@ndits. In a statement issued on June 1, 2026, the Command described the circulating posts as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary panic among residents. It clarified that there is no security invasion or coordinated attack in any part of Lagos State, stressing that schools and communities remain safe under sustained police surveillance and security deployment. However, the Command confirmed that the spread of the false alarm led to a tragic incident in which a 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Kulaha Ayuba, was k+lled by a mob after being wrongly accused of being a b@ndit. The police said he was att@cked by youths who acted on unverified information circulating within the community. His motorcycle was reportedly taken, while his body was later discovered in a swamp. Fifteen suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently under investigation. The Police condemned the spread of fake news and warned against ethnic profiling, mob action, and the circulation of unverified security information, noting that such actions can lead to avoidable violence and loss of life. Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to continue their daily activities without fear. He also advised the public to rely only on verified security updates from official channels. The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and assured Lagos residents that adequate security measures remain in place across the state.
