Fantastic night at the launch of our new @Moreincommon_ Shattered Britain report and our new British Seven Segments. Thanks to Kemi, Ed and Richard for their speeches and reflections on the findings and everyone who came along!

In 2020 @Moreincommon_ launched the British 7 Segments. After a pandemic, major global conflicts, political upheaval, cost of living crisis, changes in work/social/information habits it’s time to update them for 2025. Here’s an intro to our new tribes of Britain (Quiz link next)

@Moreincommon_ first published the British Seven Segments in 2020—a psychographic map of the UK. In 2025, we’ve updated them with the latest thinking to reflect today’s mood and divisions. A 🧵on some of the choices behind the update and why we made them:

The segments are based not on demographics or politics, but social psychology and values. Essentially trying to go upstream to find out what motivates Brits attitudes to the big issues of our time. You can find yours out here and do share in replies. moreincommon.org.uk/seven-segments/

3 in 4 say Britain's best days are behind us. The most common description of the country is 'Broken' & 53% think the next generation will have a worse life than our parents. What do Brits think has gone wrong? How do they want to fix it? And who are the 7 new tribes of Britain?

Strangers in our own country? New research finds 50% of Brits feel disconnected and 44% sometimes feel like strangers - but it's a mistake to tie that just to immigration, with the cost of living, social media, decline of town centres & the legacy of covid big drivers.

Today @Moreincommon_ releases a deep dive into Progressive Activists, the most liberal/left leaning segment of the public. It looks at who this highly engaged group are, what they believe but also why their approach maybe leading to backlash against progressive causes.

Polls close in Ireland shortly but do know too little about our closest neighbour? 93% of Brits say they don’t know who the current Taoiseach is, and of those who guessed many got it wrong. Given a list of political parties in Ireland 8% said the Taoiseach was from Fine Gael

Having spent the last months researching public opinion on assisted dying, one of the most interesting things has been how it doesn't polarise along traditional lines of political party, gender, socioeconomic group, or region. So what does shape public opinion on this? 🧵....

Fascinating work here from the team who’ve spent the last few months understanding the complexities and nuances of public opinion on assisted dying ahead of the second reading on Friday. Well worth a read ⬇️
Luke Tryl@LukeTryl

🧵@Moreincommon_ have spent the past few months polling & talking to people about assisted dying, we've shared our findings in today's Sunday Times. Speaking to people on both sides has been some of the most moving opinion work I've been involved in. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

🧵There's a line of thought that Trump's victory means progressive causes are doomed in the court of public opinion. I don't think that's true, but I do think it shows more thought needs to be given to what ought to be a tautology but infact often isn't - inclusive progressivism

🧵NEW: There's been a lot of debate about Black History Month and how Britain should teach Black History. But what Black History do Brits know and what are their attitudes towards Black History overall? Our new @Moreincommon_ polling provides some interesting data👇🏼

🚨🧵 Failure to tackle hardship could be as damaging to Labour as the Lib Dems u-turn on tuition fees, new @Moreincommon_ research for @jrf_uk shows. Those who voted Labour in July have high expectations the Govt will tackle hardship, but many think things are going the wrong way
