@RefsJourney @CorkReferee 100% agree on this. Fun game - next time you’re reffing, keep a rough score of how many ‘foul throw ref’ shouts there are (happens on MOST throw ins I reckon). As you’ve said, I’m convinced they’re coached to appeal for it and it’s just done on autopilot 😂

@CorkReferee I'm convinced people, whether that's players or spectators, shout stuff they've heard others shout just so they feel like they're involved.

Ref Jnr did a game last night, easy kids friendly, but there was a dad moaning. Really not that bad, but it did highlight just how poor LotG knowledge is amongst spectators. Not a single dodgy decision, but so many 'what's that for' and 'handball' shouts it was laughable.

If @McDonaldsUK could stop doing ridiculous things - such as bringing back the Chicken Big Mac whilst I’m trying to watch what I eat - that would be fantastic 🤝

Just paid £30 on the day for two tickets from Bruges to Brussels. Fully air conditioned double decker train, extremely clean, and loads of seats. Imagine trying to go from Manchester to London on the day and expecting any of the above.

As a level 4 ref, one of the things I miss most about refereeing in England is reffing in July. Friendlies start from July 1st. No need to do loads of cardio in pre season, I use games for majority of that and just make sure I'm ready for the fitness test. Here it's been strength

I often see people on here from outside the football bubble bemoaning the fact that so many millions of people are obsessed with the game when there are “more important things” going on but without the release that football offers, so many would feel utterly lost and hopeless. We all know it doesn’t “matter” in the grand scheme of things but that’s the beauty of it. Allowing yourself to care about something so deeply which you have no tangible control over, alongside hundreds of thousands of people who feel the same way as you? That’s the good stuff. Football is the ultimate form of escapism, the opium of the masses, the opportunity to suspend the realities of life; bills, relationship problems or a job you hate and give yourself over to something which provokes a sense of childlike wonder and hope simultaneously. Ask Palace, Newcastle, Tottenham, Bologna or Napoli fans from this season alone if the feelings and emotions they’ve had are matched by anything in normal life? I’m pretty sure their collective response would be a unanimous “no”. That doesn’t make them fools, it doesn’t act as a measure of their intelligence, it simply means they’ve allowed their minds to care about something greater than themselves in a wholehearted and emotionally vulnerable way, which I happen to think is what life is all about. Supporting a football club is an exercise in perseverance and faith for 95% of us; those who choose to pour cold water on why that’s so important while the rest of modern society is so geared towards misery are missing the point. Thanks for reading my ramblings. ❤️
