The best part? The root cause of those biases that people refuse to see the other person in the relationship at any moment is a foundation of the story itself. The disregard, the fantasy, the alienation, the victim blaming, all of it is embedded in the narrative itself.

This isn't to say Nikki isn't a victim, but the fact is that Obsession is about what abuse looks like from every angle it comes from, the fact that people can only see one or no sides here is a consequence of the viewer's lack of empathy or biases, not the characters themselves

What I've noticed about Obsession: - Toxic women refuse to see Bear as anything except a rapist - Men who have lived in abusive houses understand Bear's stagnation - People who haven't experienced abuse get nothing from the film - All these things mirror the movie's dynamics
