@kenswift Kelsey is 30, unless her agent is really bad, she won’t accept a 1 year supermax coming off a 1st team All W season. She’ll look to renegotiate for at least 3 years, whether that means a trade, we’ll have to see. Hopefully she’s back.

New CBA Supermax Rule: If you core a player, you have to offer them a Supermax. You can’t then trade that player to another team, if they are getting a Supermax. If the Fever wanted to get anything for Kelsey at all, they would have to core her, offer her a Supermax which she would have to decline and just take a haircut if 180k, to get a max. Then the fever could trade her. But if Kelsey wanted a Max, she could just leave on her own and go wherever she wants. She doesn’t need to accept a core max and wait for wherever the Fever wanted to trade her to. If she really wanted out, she could tell the Fever she’s leaving and not to protect her, she got could snapped up by an expansion, and they could core her and Supermax her from what I understand. Bottom line: I don’t see a world where it would have even made sense for the Fever not core and Supermax her this year, and keep her. Next year will be another story, but for 2026, the Fever don’t have options that give them any leverage.
