A timely reminder to breeders who listen to the “Stallion XX will never make it as a stallion. He was slow. Look at his Beyer/Rag/ThoroGraph figures…” line that’s regularly trotted out each year. Tapit, who along with Into Mischief is the breed shaping sire of North America in the past 20 years, never broke 100 Beyer in his career. Think about all the stallions that retired to stud in the past 20 years that ran 110+ speed figures, retired with great fanfare because they were deemed “fast” and it turned out they should have been gelded instead of polluting the gene pool, and remind yourself that the best Tapit did was a 98.
