Your relationship with God goes through Christ, not through an institution. The entire book of Hebrews argues that the old priesthood with its human mediators has been replaced by Christ's eternal priesthood (Hebrews 7:24-25… "He always lives to make intercession for them"). You do not need a human institution to mediate your relationship with the Son of God. The Son of God mediates it Himself.

“Follow Jesus, not the Pope” is peak Protestant cope. If you really wanted a personal relationship with Jesus, you’d submit to the Church He founded instead of your feelings, your pastor, or a 500-year-old protest. Jesus didn’t invent denominations. He said “Upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”
